Hong Kong : (SG 54b) 1898 (1st April) 10c on 30c grey-green, SURCHARGE DOUBLE with equal intensity, from position 17 of the third printing showing broken 'EN', very fine mint, and with 2011 BPA photo certificate signed by Schneider, Granger and Taylor, probably the most knowledgeable experts in the field today. To put the rarity of this stamp into perspective, the 10c on 30c with Chinese characters similarly with double surcharge has been recorded incl. within a complete mint pane, and a handful of singles (currently priced at £12,000 by SG). ONLY one row in a single pane became doubly printed, and the row comprised a setting of six subjects (incl. the above variety showing 'EN' broken); Moving on to the same stamp issue without Chinese characters which this is, ONLY ONE OTHER EXAMPLE IS KNOWN and unpriced by SG, and to find one with this combination of broken letters is almost certainly unique. Les Oiseaux [and] Les Poissons et le Timbre-Poste, Nature I [and] II, [from] "Iris" Recueils Philateliques d'Art, d'Histoire et de Science, 2 volumes [of 5], Paris: Helio-Vaugirard, 1949-1955, twelve and eight hand-coloured plates respectively, plate IX in Les Oiseaux with slight watercolour bleeding, unopened and unbound, contained in original printed wrappers, both with short closed tear to front cover at bottom left corner, loosely contained in original boards and slipcase as issued, all boards and Les Oiseaux slipcase lightly mottled, each with printed envelope containing deluxe proofs of each stamp re-engraved, Les Oiseaux also with printed prospectus loosely inserted, folio Limited editions, 461/500 & 172/500 respectively. Albums of of wide ranging and in depth United States postal history and various stamps, perfins, pre-cancels definitives etc. To include US Civil War cover and letter (with transcription), 1864 3c stamp affixed from Northern army soldier Levi Bliss from Halltown VA to New London Conn. Informative study presentations associated with these collections, as used in previous philately displays and exhibitions. The collection covers the whole field of German philately commencing with a book of German States with many better items. The Germany 1872-1945 collection is quite comprehensive used including 1899-1900 Reichpost set to 5Mk, some better inflation period issues, Welfare sets, Zeppelins complete inc South America Flight, Polar Flight, Chicago Flight sets, missing the more expensive miniature sheets. An album of German Colonies includes some better items and Saar with good Charity sets. This is followed by books of War time Occupation issues and post war Allied Occupations. West Germany 1949-1982 looks complete, almost all unmounted mint, the Posthorn 70pf has a small tone mark on gum. A futher West Germany album looks complete used. Berlin 1948-1990 is almost complete used except Dove black overprint 3Mk,5Mk, the 1949 mini sheet is unmounted. A VALUABLE LOT in mainly fine condition.
