Patek Philippe. A fine and rare 18K gold manual wind chronograph wristwatchReference: 533Date: Purchased 1940Movement: 23-jewel manual wind, adjusted to 8 positions, double Seal of Geneva, No.862463Dial: Silvered, applied gilt dot hour markers with Roman numeral 12 and 6, black outer base scale, subsidiary dials at 3 and 9 for running seconds and 30 minute recording, gilt pointed baton hands, blued steel centre chronograph handCase: Polished round, snap on back, crown flanked by twin squared chronograph pushers, No.621724Strap/Bracelet: Associated black leatherBuckle/Clasp: Associated gilt buckleSigned: Case, dial & movementSize: 33mm Accompaniments: Patek Philippe service caseFootnotes:The Reference 533 first appeared in 1937. It is regarded by many Patek Philippe aficionados as the quintessential vintage chronograph because of its elegantly simple Calatrava case and characteristic flat bezel. The Reference 130 houses the same movement Calibre 13' but it is aesthetically distinguished by a concave bezel.Although its production run lasted for 20 years, the 533 was made in very restricted numbers. It is estimated that the total production was around 350 pieces. Of those, the majority were cased in pink gold and fitted with a pink gold dial. The model is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, p. 264.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Lot 29

Patek Philippe. An unusual, fine and exceptionally rare 18K gold manual wind asymmetrical wristwatchModel: Gilbert AlbertReference: 3422Date: Circa 1960Movement: 18-jewel Cal.99 P manual wind, adjusted to 5 positions, No.861415Dial: Silvered, enamel signature, black sectored hour markers, gilt pointed baton handsCase: Brushed and polished asymmetric rhomboid form, snap on back, No.2615624, inside bezel No.24Strap/Bracelet: Fitted black Patek Philippe alligator leatherBuckle/Clasp: Signed 18K gold buckleSigned: Case, dial & movement Size: 30mm x 31mmFootnotes:Gilbert Albert was born in Geneva in 1930. After studying Jewellery and Design at Geneva's Ecole des Arts Industriels, in 1955 and at only the tender age of 24, his design talents were spotted and he was approached by Patek Philippe to design some prototype wristwatch cases. Inspired by his favourite artists Brancusi, a modernist sculptor, and Mondrian, a non-representational painter, Albert defied the conventional way of designing watch cases. He incorporated asymmetrical and rhombic forms in his watches and the result was simple, sophisticated, and purely artistic designs. Many of Albert's innovative designs for Patek Philippe, such as Ref. 3412-3413, remained prototypes and were never manufactured in series because of the uncertain commercial success of his daring design. The current example is a reference 3422 which was in production for just 4 short years from 1960 to 1964. The case was made by Markowski and the dial by Stern Freres. It is understood that only 18 examples of this reference were created in yellow gold with a further approximate 5 in rose gold. Of the 4 rhomboid-esque references Albert designed, the 3422 is one of the rarest. His unconventional case designs are considered as exciting and innovative today as they were 70 years ago. This particular example has never been offered at auction before and is offered on behalf of the family of the original owner. In honest condition, this really is a rare opportunity to acquire a timepiece representative of a period of design exploration and creativity from one of the most desirable manufactures in the world. The small production number made only expounds this point further - this is not something that comes up at auction every day. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: YY Subject to CITES regulations when exporting items outside of the EU, see clause 13.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Born out of a desire to create a self-winding, ultra-thin movement, the calibre was built with longevity in mind and has been used in Patek Philippe watches for over 40 years. What sets the calibre 240 apart is the height of just 2.53mm, this is achieved by the 22K gold, off centre micro-rotor recessed into the mainplate. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: YY Subject to CITES regulations when exporting items outside of the EU, see clause 13.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Patek Philippe. A fine and rare 18K rose gold automatic perpetual calendar wristwatch with moon phase and 24 hour indicationReference: 5040R-016Date: Purchased 21st May 2007Movement: 27-jewel Cal.240/114 Q. automatic, adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism & 5 positions, micro-rotor, Gyromax balance, Stamp of Geneva, No.3129252Dial: Brushed silvered, applied rose Arabic numeral hour markers, black outer minute track, subsidiary dials at 3, 6, and 9 for month with leap year, date with moon phase and day with 24 hour indication, gilt leaf handsCase: Brushed and polished tonneau form, snap on exhibition back, quick set button at 6, 9, 11 and 12, No.4355759Strap/Bracelet: Black Patek Philippe alligator leatherBuckle/Clasp: Signed 18K rose gold folding claspSigned: Case, dial & movementSize: 35mm Accompaniments: Patek Philippe winding box, Certificate of Origin, brochures, spare 18K rose gold case back, quick set toolFootnotes:Patek Philippe produced the reference 5040 from 1992 until approximately 2007. This complicated perpetual calendar is a highly recognisable timepiece with its striking dial, applied numerals and unique tonneau shaped case. Housed within this present reference is Calibre 240 Q, which was discontinued after over two decades of production. Calibre 240 Q can be found also in the ever popular Reference 3940 perpetual calendar, which was produced in much greater quantity than this rarer Reference 5040, hence increasing collectability of the latter. It is estimated that 450 examples were executed in rose gold thus making this example one of the rarer versions available. This example is a 2nd Series piece as denoted by the movement number starting 312xxxx.This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: YY Subject to CITES regulations when exporting items outside of the EU, see clause 13.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Patek Philippe. An extremely fine and very rare 18K gold keyless wind open face minute repeating perpetual calendar pocket watch with moon phase and 24 hour indicationReference: 962/1J-001Date: Purchased January 2001Movement: 29-jewel Swiss lever, Cotes de Genève finish, free-sprung microstella balance, two polished hammers striking on two gongs, adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism & 5 positions, Stamp of Geneva, No.866595Dial: Brushed silvered, applied gold Arabic numeral hour markers, outer minute divisions, subsidiary dials at 3, 6, 9 and 12 for month combined with leap year, date combined with seconds, day combined with 24 hour indication and moon phase, gold baton hands, No.866595Case: Heavy polished round hinged, repeat slide in the band at 9, quick set buttons at 1 and 2, exhibition cuvette, No.2837635Signed: Case, dial & movement Size: 52mm Accompaniments: Patek Philippe box, Certificate of Origin, Patek Philippe pouchFootnotes:As the wristwatch market dominated the sales from watch manufacturers the production of pocket watches dwindled to almost nothing. In recent history when watch manufacturers do produce pocket watches it is with one main objective - to demonstrate their depth of expertise and to really celebrate the rich history of complications that can be added to a watch. It means a fine modern pocket watch is not only a rarity but when someone like Patek Philippe decides to make one it will be spectacular. Patek Philippe have produced some of the finest ultra complicated watches in history with fantastic examples on either side of the introduction of computer aided design. From the Henry Graves super complication to the more recent extraordinary Calibre 89 and Star Calibre - each decade reaches a new height in their ability to produce such fantastic timepieces whilst expressing the real 'Art of Watchmaking', using their artisans expertise and ability to produce each part to the highest of standards The Reference 962 is no exception to this and is a piece made for the absolute connoisseur of watchmaking. The rarity of this watch cannot be understated and it is imperative to really appreciate just how much time is needed to complete the movement, dial and case of a watch that only Patek Philippe can attain with this extreme level of complication. Our research indicates that so far only one other Ref:960 has been seen on offer at auction before. The present piece is in exceptional condition and offers one of the rarest opportunities to own a piece of Patek Philippe history - one that may never come up for sale again. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
