Ralph Hedley 32 1/4in. x 39in. (82 x 99cm) 'A Yorkshire Weaver' - an old man working at a loom watched by a small girl wearing a Staithes bonnet Signed and dated 1909; with exhibition label on the reverse (Laing Art Gallery 1938), with alternative title 'Old Man at the Loom' Illustrated Page 75 of Ralph Hedley - Tyneside Painter, published to accompany the exhibition of the same name at the Laing Art Gallery 1990 (EB44).. NB: This work has been previously exhibited under the title 'A Northumberland Weaver', but in view of the traditional North Yorkshire costume worn by the figure to the left, the current title is perhaps more accurate. The Artist's original titled inscribed on the reverse does not specify a country.
