WOODSTOCKOne-Sheet (27" x 40.25"); Chevelle StyleVery Fine Rolled Warner Bros., 1970This is a rare "Chevelle" style advance poster, named after the car featured in the image. There were three styles of posters in this advance posters series, this being one of the favorites among collectors.A clean poster with minor wear including light wear to the lower edge, a clean cut in the upper part of the word "this," which has been backed with scotch tape on the verso, and some light bleed-over of red color into the upper white area of the poster. The image and poster itself are very presentable. From August 15 to 18, 1969, more than 400,000 people descended on Max Yasgur's dairy farm in Bethel, New York, for "3 days of peace & music," a festival that would gain international fame as "Woodstock" and become emblematic of the counterculture era. With such legendary musicians as Janis Joplin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Joe Cocker, the Grateful Dead, Sha-Na-Na, Richie Havens, Joan Baez, The Who, Arlo Guthrie, Jefferson Airplane, and Jimi Hendrix, it was one of the largest music festivals ever held and a pivotal moment in popular music history. Fortunately, the landmark event was memorialized in a spectacular documentary, which became a smashing commercial and critical success, grossing more than $50 million in the United States against a budget of a mere $600,000. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on December 7th.
JIMI HENDRIX/JIMI PLAYS BERKELEYSpecial Posters (2) (20" x 30" & 11" x 17")Very Fine+ Rolled Warner Bros. & New Line, 1973Both rolled posters are in terrific condition, with only a few minor faint crimps. The Jimi Plays Berkeley poster does have one longer crimp in the upper right from the top to the middle.Fortunately for those who did not have a chance to see him live, Jimi Hendrix's electrifying performances were preserved in films like the two represented here. Jimi Hendrix (1973), also known as A Film About Jimi Hendrix, is a "rockumentary" featuring concert footage from the years 1967 to 1970, such as the Monterey Pop Festival, Woodstock, and The Isle of Wight Festival. Jimi Plays Berkeley (1971), as the title suggests, was put together from two separate concerts at the Berkeley (CA) Community Theater that took place on May 30, 1970. Together, they represent not only a fitting eulogy to a musician whose legacy will never be forgotten. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on December 7th.
