The Blue Max, the lead role's own copy of the revised screenplay, presented by him to the author. Hanley (Gerald), Pursall (David), & Seddon (Jack), The Blue Max: Revised Screenplay, 28th June, 1965, [for] Twentieth Century - Fox Productions Ltd., London, W.1., Blue Page Amendments 20th July, 1965, pp: [i], 141, [i], 8, 6, 8, 5, 5, [4], original corporation printed wrappers, 4to. Provenance: 1) George Peppard (1928-1994), American actor, his own working copy of the revised screenplay in which he played the lead role of Leutnant Bruno Stachel, presented by him to the novel's author; 2) Jack D. Hunter (1921-2009); a typed and autographed letter from Hunter that explains the history of the script's presentation, while the film was being shot at Ardmore Studios, south of Dublin, Ireland, 'Peppard was a gracious host, and on the day of our arrival, he asked me if I'd had a chance to read the shooting script. [...] I told him I had not, and he said it was most important to him that I did. With that, he gave me his well-worn personal copy with the request that I read it that night at my hotel and give my reaction the next morning. We met as planned and discussed the script in some detail. He never asked me to return the script, and, since I saw him carrying around another copy during the week, I assumed he'd tacitly presented me with a special gift. The copy, its cover thumbed and tattered, its pages (in my mind) still redolent of Ireland [...]'.
