Attributed to Mark Gertler (British, 1892-1939), Christine Mavrogordato Reclining on a Daybed, pencil and crayon, 26 x 43cm (10 x 17in). Provenance: The Mavrogordato family and by descent. Mark Gertler was a friend of John Mavrogordato, the Greek scholar, and his wife, Christine, and spent holidays in Charmouth, Dorset, with the family. This drawing is thought to be a sketch for a larger oil of Christine Mavrogordato lying on the same daybed, now said to be in the United States

REGENCY STYLE GREY PAINTED DAYBED OF RECENT MANUFACTURE of shell form with scale carved claw feet 101cm high, 204cm wide, 67cm deep Note: This daybed is modelled after an Egyptian river boat, it reflects the fashion during the Regency period for Egyptianesque style. This was inspired by Napoleon`s archaeological discoveries made during his military campaigns. A similar daybed was acquired for the Prince Regent`s Royal Pavilion in Brighton.
