[WALLIS WINDSOR]: (1895-1986) American Socialite, wife of Edward, Duke of Windsor. A colourful necklace previously owned by the Duchess of Windsor, the 60" long necklace constructed of faux pearls in runs of four and seven separated by glass beads of various colours (red, blue and green) and with a silver coloured metal clasp bearing diamante stones (a few missing). The necklace is possibly a creation of the American costume jewellery designer Kenneth Jay Lane. Contained in a later blue leather folding presentation case. VG Provenance: Originally sold at auction by Christie's in Rome as part of their sale of the property of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, 17th June 2004. The necklace was illustrated in their catalogue as lot 621 and copies of the relevant pages are included with the present lot. Kenneth Jay Lane (1932- ) American Costume Jewellery Designer who first came to public attention after the Duchess of Windsor purchased several of his pieces and recommended him to her friends. The Duchess was rumoured to have been buried wearing one of his belts. Lane's other clients included Jacqueline Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn.
