A LUCITE NECKLACE, BY DIOR, CIRCA 1966The multi-strand necklace, alternately strung with moulded lucite beads in the form of green leaves and pink flowers, with faceted pink and colourless bead spacers, to a similarly-decorated clasp, signed Chr. Dior Germany 1966, length of shortest strand 43cm, maker's case. Gross weight approx. 138 grams Christian Dior rose to prominence with the launch of his 'New Look' collection in 1947. Wide skirts and nipped-in waists celebrated the feminine form and provided a welcome departure from the more masculine and restrained fashions of the war years. The resounding success of Dior's initial collection was credited with reviving the French fashion industry. The 'New Look' extended beyond clothing - hats, bags, shoes and even perfumes were designed by Dior to complete this style. In 1955, Dior engaged the German manufacturer Henkel und Grossé to produce costume jewellery, in a partnership that would continue for the next fifty years.
