A 1964 Austin Healey 3000 Mk III Phase II BJ8, registration number PRX 771B, chassis number HBJ8L 29270, engine number 29KRUH/3966, Healey blue. According to the BMIHT Heritage Trust certificate this original left hand drive Mk III Phase II big Healey was manufactured over the 5th and 6th October 1964 and was dispatched on 12th October, destined for New York, USA. The original specification included wire wheels, overdrive, laminated windscreen, whitewall tyres, adjustable steering column and a blue tonneau cover. The colour scheme was Healey blue coachwork, blue trim and soft top (colours it still retains today). Unfortunately nothing is known of its time in the USA and the big Healey's story continues on these shores from 2000. It was purchased by the previous owner from Chiltern Classics having had a full nut and bolt restoration and conversion from left to right hand drive. The current vendor purchased the Healey from him on August 2003. Since acquiring the Healey the vendor has maintained the car to a very high standard (in his words he is a perfectionist!). The comprehensive history file details all works carried out. These include a recent body rebuild with aluminium front wings, both rear wings, both doors (the bonnet was already a louvered aluminium panel) and a full respray in Healey blue (receipts on file for £9,000). Further recent expenditure includes new tyres and wire wheels, a new electronic ignition and components, and general servicing. As a Mk III Phase II example it has all of the best features associated with this model, with wind up windows, wood trim dashboard and steering wheel, wrap around windscreen, overdrive, the most powerful engine, full and half tonneau covers and a fully lined soft top. This big Healey is beautifully presented and on the button ready to be enjoyed by the next owner. V5C, MOT to July 2016 See front cover and other illustrations

A serial Jaguar owner who had had the pleasure of piloting an ex-Ecurie Ecosse C-Type on the Mille Miglia Storica, the late Richard Colton commissioned `NBD 2' from Bryan Wingfield of DRL Engineering during summer 1991. A recognised master in his field, Wingfield's customer base at the time encompassed Francesco Scianna, Edward Harrison and Sir Anthony Bamford. One of only a few such `Lightweight' Roadster Evocations to be completed (some sources put the number as low as eight), it utilised a 1969 E-Type 2+2 donor car. The work of renowned specialist RS Panels, the re-born Jaguar's alloy monocoque was reinforced via the use of steel for its floor, front / rear bulkheads and internally braced sills not to mention a Safety Devices rollover bar. Lighter yet stiffer than its production equivalent, the resultant bi-metal structure was fitted with uprated suspension (rose-jointed anti-roll bars, adjustable shock absorbers) and more efficient brakes (XJ6 callipers). Built by Dave Butcher, the 3.8 litre engine featured D-type camshafts and triple Weber carburettors etc. Reputed to develop 282bhp and 275lbft of torque, the straight-six was allied to a five-speed manual Getrag gearbox. Riding on correct-type `peg drive' alloy wheels and clad with alloy outer panels, `NBD 2' is understood to have weighed 23.3 cwt with a few gallons of fuel aboard. Visually distinguished from a factory `Lightweight' by its more steeply raked windscreen, the two-seater also boasted a properly lined hardtop, Parchment leather / Chiltern Tweed upholstery and full carpet / door trims so as to make it a more civilised companion on long, fast road trips. Writing in the Jaguar Drivers' Club Newsletter (January 2007 issue), Richard Colton recalled that `The Wingfield Lightweight first moved on the road in August 1992. Since then it has covered many miles on the Continent, climbed all the major Alpine Rally passes, competed in the Rallye Pyrenees (x2), Prix des Alpes (x2), Rally Atlantique, Carrera d'Espagne, Euroclassic (x3), RAC Haynes Two-Days (x2) and Entente Cordiale (x3). It has been driven on the circuits of Goodwood, Silverstone, Castle Coombe, Snetterton, Thruxton, Zandvoort, Zolder, Nurburgring, Hockenheim, Clermont Ferrand, Montlhery, Chimay, Reims, Spa Francorchamps, Brno, Budapest, Mas du Clos and has ascended the hills of Prescott, Shelsey, Loton and Wiscombe. After all that it still feels as good as ever including when it recorded 143.6mph for the standing mile at the 2005 Woodbridge Speed Trials'. Thought to have covered some 25,000 miles since completion, `NBD 2' possesses an MOT certificate valid until August 2016 but would doubtless benefit from a thorough service / checkover before attempting another Speed Trial. Great fun to drive, it has been estimated that this handsome `Lightweight' Roadster Evocation would cost circa £150,000 to replicate today. Offered for sale with V5C Registration Document and history file.

- Supplied new via J.B. Fenwick Ltd of Glasgow to Mr Brown - Continuous ownership from 1933 to date - Extensively restored by marque specialist Ian Lock Engineering during the mid-1980s - Sparingly used since completing the Frazer Nash Raid to the South Tyrol (June 9th - 23rd 1989) - Correct-type Anzani 1.5-litre engine allied to three-speed chain-drive transmission - Inspected by Winston Teague, Registrar of the Frazer Nash Car Club Further Info; According to the late David Thirlby's authoritative tome `The Chain Drive Frazer Nash', this rakish Fast Tourer was completed in July 1926 and supplied new via J.B. Fenwick Ltd of Glasgow to a Mr Brown. The earliest document on file - a buff logbook issued by Leeds County Council during February 1933 - gives the 2+2-seater's chassis and engine numbers as 4520 and RH4520 respectively. The Frazer Nash remains registered as `PF 5858' with chassis number 4520 to this day. Interestingly, David Thirlby records its initial chassis number as 1097. It is pure supposition but the issuing of a new logbook in 1933 may have been triggered by the Fast Tourer receiving a factory replacement chassis. Chain-Gang `Nashs have always encouraged spirited driving and it is not unknown for accident damaged cars to have been rebuilt by the works in period. `PF 5858' boasts a continuous ownership history from 1933 to date. Not only is the buff logbook augmented by a green continuation one but Nigel Griffiths Esq who owned the car from 1966 - 1972 did much to research its earlier history via letters to his predecessors. Mr Griffiths' correspondence reveals that the Frazer Nash passed through the hands of The Vale Engineering Co and Chiltern Cars as well as various private keepers and that it was re-bodied and uprated with an Alvis 12/50 `big port' engine and rod brakes over time. Entering the current family ownership more than thirty years ago, `PF 5858' joined a number of other `Nashs including a TT Replica and Le Mans Replica etc. Entrusted to marque specialist Ian Lock Engineering for an extensive `chassis up' restoration during the mid-1980s, the Fast Tourer was returned to original specification. Beautifully wrought, its aluminium over ash bodywork mimics that shown in various accompanying Motor Sport magazine road tests. A correct-type but substitute unit, its 1.5 litre Anzani sidevalve four-cylinder engine is allied to three-speed chain drive transmission (complete with a Frazer Nash Car Club-sourced replacement bevel box). The refurbishment was completed in time for `PF 5858' to complete the Frazer Nash Raid to the South Tyrol from June 9th - 23rd 1989 which progressed via Brooklands, Pirmasens, Stuttgart, Innsbruck, Merano and Bolzano. Sparingly used since then, the Fast Tourer has recently undergone a sympathetic recommissioning (fluid change, check over, chassis greasing etc). Trimmed in Blue leather, the 2+2-seater upholstery is protected by a Black double duck hood, hood bag, and tonneau cover. Puzzled by the discrepancy between the chassis numbers quoted for `PF 5858' in 1926 and 1933, the vendor's agent took the Fast Tourer to Winston Teague, the Frazer Nash Car Club Registrar, for inspection earlier this year. Mr Teague spent several hours examining and photographing the car. Chain Gang `Nashs are notoriously easy to replicate, however, it is our understanding that the chassis which underpins `PF 5858' has many of the `hallmarks' of a genuine factory frame. For example the side rails are made from the right thickness of metal and there are signs of repair to traditional areas of weakness such as the `Admiral's Walk' etc. In the absence of corroborating paperwork there can be no absolute guarantees as to the chassis frame's provenance. That said it appears correct and prospective purchasers are encouraged to contact Mr Teague for his opinion on the car. Nicely detailed, this delightful Frazer Nash is described by the vendor as being in `very good overall' condition with regard to its engine, transmission, electrical equipment, bodywork and interior trim. Worthy of close inspection, `PF 5858' would afford its new owner entry to one of the old car world's most enthusiastic owners' clubs.
