H. G. Wells (1866-1946) original autograph letter on headed paper, 47 Chiltern Court, Clarence Gate, NW1 (the famous Marylebone flat where Wells hosted his book club). Dated 29th April 1935, handwritten in ink and signed by Wells lower-right. Complete with envelope, addressed to Charles L. Rayner Esq., "Laurence" Allestree Lane, Allestree, Derby. Postmarked London NW1, 29th April 1935.Condition Report: The letter is very good; clean and bright for age.The envelope has general discolouration.
A Chiltern jointed musical clockwork teddy bear, the golden mohair body with central seam, orange and black glass eyes, plastic nose and stitched mouth, velveteen pads and label under right arm, playing Brahms' Lullaby, length 40cm. CONDITION REPORT: Musical mechanism in working order, some areas of loss to mohair.
Three jointed mohair teddy bears, the longest with centre seam, orange and black glass eyes, stitched nose and mouth, brown velvet pads and tartan ribbon bow tie, lacking label but with purchase receipt referring to bear as 'Chiltern', length 34cm, and two further similar bears including a blonde Merrythought example (3). CONDITION REPORT: First bear with small areas of loss to mohair, more extensive to other bears, some small areas of loss to stitching, pads of all bears worn and stained.
Railway interest: 'LMS Route Book', numbers 2, 3, 4 and 5; 'London Midland Region Magazine', January 1963 and March 1963; 'British Railways London Midland Magazine', November 1961; seven 'Rambles' titles by Hugh E. Page (Shakespeare Land and Cotswolds, Somerset, South Devon, Chilterns, Chiltern Country, two of Cambrian Coast).
1997 Aston Martin DB7 - Finished in Chiltern Metallic Green paintwork with a Parchment-coloured hide interior piped in contrasting Forest Green. - Offered with impressive service record, original book pack, handbooks and collection of invoices - 81,500 recorded miles and MOT'd into Dec 2017 Though the memorable styling of the DB7 owed much to the Jaguar XK180 the final look was crafted by in-house designer Ian Callum. Power came from a supercharged, Jaguar-derived straight-six unit of 3.2-litres capacity with some 7,000 DB7s being manufactured. The DB7 was superseded by the DB9. This tidy-looking DB7 hails from 1997 and sports Chiltern Metallic Green paintwork teamed with a Parchment-coloured hide interior that's piped in contrasting Forest Green. Allied to the standard fitment 3.2 litre supercharged straight-six engine and automatic transmission the indicated mileage of 81,500 is borne out by the impressive service record, the book for which contains no less than 16 stamps, 4 at Stratstones Aston Martin, Grays Inn Road London, 10 at HWM Aston Martin, Walton On Thames and 2 at Runnymeade Motor company (Aston Martin specialist). Offered with its original book pack, handbooks and collection of invoices plus 2 keys and fobs the vendor currently classes the engine, automatic transmission, bodywork, paintwork and interior trim as `very good' and is offered with an MOT certificate into December 2017. DISRAELI BENJAMIN: (1804-1881) British Prime Minister 1868, 1874-80. A.L.S., B Disraeli, three pages, 8vo, Hughenden Manor, 31st August 1864, to the Earl of Clanwilliam ('My dear Lord'). Disraeli writes 'You said you shd. certainly be hanging about town, or the south, for some little time' and enquires 'Shall you be in our parts during the impending month? And, if so, may we count on the great pleasure of seeing you….to stay a few days, & taste the air of the Chiltern Hills?' In a postscript Disraeli adds that the nearest station is High Wycombe ('only about two miles from our gates'). The final leaf of the letter is neatly laid down to a portion of a page removed from an album, otherwise VG Richard Meade (1795-1879) 3rd Earl of Clanwilliam. British Diplomat & Politician who served as Lord Castlereagh's Private Secretary from 1817-19. Disraeli, the only British Prime Minister of Jewish birth, served two terms in office and played a central role in the creation of the modern Conservative Party. A rival of the Liberal Party leader William Gladstone, Disraeli is remembered for his influential voice in world affairs and he made the Conservatives the party most identified with the glory and power of the British Empire.
