A Sino-Tibetan unmarked parcel gilt-silver candle holder with Tibetan and Chinese motifs, the holder with a cylindrical base having three cartouches with repousse and gilded flowers surrounded by foliage, interspersed with incised floral designs opening into a wide saucer designed as an eight-petal flower, each with gilded symbols surrounded by incised floral motifs and a central opening in which the candleholder sits, c19th century. An interesting pair of Barr, Flight & Barr (Royal Porcelain Works, Worcester) porcelain candlesticks; each beautifully hand-gilded and decorated individually with a central vertical, rectangular vignette depicting a woodsman and a female with dark, barren surroundings, each with printed marks to underside and individually annotated 'Forth Goes the Woodman, Leaving unconcern'd the cheerful haunts of Man', - Cowper's Poems, the female decorated candlestick annotated to the underside 'Kate is Craze'd' - Cowper's Poems (each approx. 13cm high), the female decorated candlestick with 'pushed in' porcelain candleholder to interiorCondition Report: It should be noted that the candlestick with the female vignette unfortunately has had the wax pushed down too hard thereby breaking the circular interior candleholder within and pushing it down approx. 2cm further than it should. Also please note some rubbing to paintwork on red skirt, upon close inspection the Woodmen example has found to be broken and repaired (just above the second line of applied white spheres, above the base, there is a hairline crack to be found around this full circumference area leading to the obvious conclusion that the candlestick has had a full break and has been re-affixed)

A BRONZE 'FOREIGNER' CANDLESTICKChina, late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The bearded foreigner cast on a hexagonal base with his left arm raised and right hand resting on his hip, dressed with ornate jewelry and a sash tied across the rotund belly above a tunic with long flowing ribbons, the face with bulging eyes, bushy eyebrows and a cheerful smile. Cast on the top with a candleholder, most certainly a later addition.Condition: Good condition with minor wear and casting irregularities as well as minuscule nicks here and there. Soldering traces between the head and the lower bowl of the candle holder. Provenance: Dutch private collection.Weight: 750 g Dimensions: Height 28 cm
