A Bernard Leach St. Ives stoneware caddy and cover, mid-20th Century, of square shape with rounded shoulders, covered in a brown tenmoku type glaze with opposing resist decoration of a stylized sun and cross hatching, impressed personal and pottery seal marks to base, height approx 14cm (restoration to edge of cover and neck rim).
Attributed to Bernard Leach - A hand thrown shallow bowl decorated with handpainted stylised floral decoration and banded rim in tones of brown against a buff glaze ground, unmarked, diameter 21cm Provenance - Accompanying this bowl is a letter dated July 1985 from Miss M Rose of the Little Gallery stating "... this bowl or plate was his first effort solo ... He in turn years later gave it to Muriel Rose of the Little Gallery just off Sloane Street who in 1940 gave it to Edith Flint her senior assistant at the Little Gallery who was helping with disposal of the stock as the shop was closed owing to the war in 1944. Edith came to live with one and gave the said bowl to my grandson" who is the present vendors grandfather.

Bernard Leach (1897-1979) Bird of Peace, a soft ground etching on paper, framed signed in the print, numbered in pencil 13/25 image 14 x 11.5cm. Literature Simon Olding The Etchings of Bernard Leach, Crafts Study Centre, Farnham, page 91 plate 64 for a comparable version of this print, originally conceived in 1918.
GEOFFREY WHITING (1919-88) A Geoffrey Whiting stoneware jar with celadon glaze over incised and underpainted chequered pattern. Glazing stops and pools beautifully about an inch from the base, contrasting with the reduction-fired iron-speckled body with warm tonal flashes. Early marks for Geoffrey Whiting and Avoncroft Pottery, c.1950. Height 16.8cm. Geoffrey Whiting was born in Stocksfield, Northumberland and originally trained as an architect, but after spending some of his National Service working with a family of potters in India he returned to England and taught himself pottery under the influence of Bernard Leach. He set up his first pottery at Avoncroft College, Worcestershire in 1949.
