A painted metal and perspex cased cyclo-stormgraph barograph, Short & Mason, London , first half 20th century, the chromed mechanism concealed beneath the base connected to an inked pointer for recording observations on a clockwork-driven rotating paper scale lined drum, the base enscribed for SHORT & MASON LONDON, MADE IN ENGLAND, No. L 11854, with applied WEATHER FORECAST key, for reading the observations, copyright 1930, beneath a perspex cover, 18cm high overall, 35cm wide, 20cm deep, together with a quantity of spare Short & Mason and Negretti & Zambra charts, The firm of Short and Mason are recorded in Banfield, Edwin BAROMETER MAKERS & RETAILERS 1660-1900 as operating from 62 Hatton Garden, London 1873-75 then 40 Hatton Garden from 1876. They were leading makers of barographs and aneroid barometers well into the 20th century later merging with Taylor Instruments in 1969.

Hicks, London, circa 1900, the mechanism with seven segment aneroid chamber connected via a brass armature to an inked pointer for recording the change in barometric pressure on a clockwork-driven rotating paper scale lined drum, the interior with ivorine maker s label inscribed J. HICKS, MAKER, LONDON, the case with five panel bevel-glazed cover and stepped ogee moulded base with rounded angles and frieze drawer containing spare charts, 38cm (15ins) wide James Joseph Hicks is recorded in Banfield, Edwin BAROMETER MAKERS AND RETAILERS 1660-1900 as working from Hatton Garden, London from 1861 until after 1900. He was a committed Catholic who presented various meteorological instruments to the Vatican receiving the title of Knight Commander of St. Gregory for his services.
AN EARLY 20th CENTURY OAK CASED BAROGRAPH by Thomas Armstrong & Brother, Manchester the moulded case having curved corners with lift off cover mounted with bevelled glass panels and chart drawer to the base enclosing a revolving chart drum run by an eight day spring driven movement, the pointer driven by two large aneroid bellows 39cm wide, 24cm deep and 25cm high.
