Autograph letter from Benjamin Franklin, West Wickham, Bucks, dated 6 July 1773 to his wife'My dear ChildI am here on my way to Oxford where I am going to be present at the Installation and I shall stay a few Days amongst my Friends there. By Capt. Ault who sails next I shall write more fully to you and to Friends in Philadelphia. This is my only Letter Packet. Love to our Children & to Benny Boy. I am thanks to God very well and hearty and everYour affectionate HusbandB. Franklin'Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790), statesman and scientist, was in England to protest against Taxation of the American colonies without representation when he wrote this letter. he returned to America two years later to participate in the framing of the Declaration of Independence of July 1776. Independence was granted by Britain in 1783. Franklin had married Deborah Reid in 1730. The had three children, William, born the same year, Francis, born 1732 and died 1736, and Sally, born 1743. Sally married a Richard Bachie in 1767 and they had a son Benjamin Franklin Bache wo was born in 1769. He is presumably the 'Benny Boy' referred to in the letter. Franklin's wife Deborah, after years of bad health, died at the age of sixty-six in 1774. Franklin, therefore did not see her again.

A George IV mahogany and oak 30 hour longcase clock the foliate and rose painted arch dial with a minute aperture and marked JAS AULT, Belper, inlaid with stringing throughout, the hood with broken arch pediment and fluted column supports, the oak and mahogany banded trunk with fluted quarter corner columns, on low bracket feet 220cm high
A Dartmouth ware terracotta vase of rounded form with raised neck, decorated in slip with mallard ducks in flight, printed mark on base, 25 cm high, together with a Japanese earthenware globular vase with applied lug handles, the exterior enamelled with scenes of scholars reading, 36 cm high and an Ault style art pottery vase with green mottled ground, 23 cm high, (3).
