Derbyshire Fishing Interest - a Victorian half-fluted pedestal trophy cup, the Derby Angling Association Challenge Cup, domed cover surmounted by a finial cast as an angler on a grassy bank, acanthus grasped fluted scroll handles terminating in flower buds, chased and embossed with flowers and scrolling foliage, to verso with a vacant oval cartouche, knop to stem, egg and dart border, moulded circular base, 53cm high, Frederick Elkington, Birmingham 1879, 70oz gross, ebonised plinth The stand bears numerous winners` plaques, mainly commemorating victories by teams from Derby pubs, many long- forgotten or long-closed, eg. The extant Alexandra , Siddalls Road, and the vanished Old English Gentleman, Grove Street and Castle Tavern, Castle Street. The Association was eventually absorbed by the Pride of Derby Angling Association, itself founded 1892, and incorporated as a limited company in 1937 to raise money to buy the fishing rights on a stretch of the Derwent
