The following 6 lots formerly the property of the late Wing Commander G. B. Atkinson DFC, MBE. Atkinson, author of Angling from a Fishes Point of View was a fanatical angler and prolific columnist for many angling periodicals. He retired from the Royal Air Force in 1980 as Wing Commander having had a distinguished career as Battle of Britain Spitfire Pilot in WW2. Later recon photography in Mosquito aircraft and in the 1960s set up the Royal Air Force in Oman. He was related to Fosters of Ashbourne and Foster who managed the shop pre WW2 gave these lots to him over many years. REEL & CASE: Rare Hardy brass faced Perfect 4.25" alloy salmon fly reel with SOLID DRUM FACE: 1904 flat spring calliper check, rim tension regulator with Turks lock screw, white handle, straight line and open oval logo trade marks to bronze face, correct smooth brass foot with central hole to alloy block, all original and correct, good dark lead finish in Hardy fitted block leather case, red baize lined, original strap & buckle, fine.
REEL: A rare Gladstone Gough 4.5" narrow drum alloy trotting reel by Kenny Kendal, Leeds, c1940 twin horn handles on brass cusps, centre spindle adjuster, button release, full frame with slot line guide, 2 screw foot, no fitted check, fine reel. Note; Kenny Kendal Captained the mighty Leeds Amalgamated angling team on the River Severn 1952, taking the title for the 7th time. Kendal made Aerial variant reels for his angling friends in his workshop at home. Few models ever appear for resale.

Angling in Troubled Waters, A Serio-Comic Map of Europe, [1899], allegorical colour printed lithographic map, inset geographical map of Europe, tables of reference and explanation, trimmed to neat line and laid on contemp. card, slight spotting, largely confined to margins, closed tear affecting image, slight abrasion to printed surface, 495 x 690mm. (1) The vendor of this lot has kindly included a copy of The Penguin Atlas of Recent History, the cover of which illustrates the map being sold here. The condition of the map has deteriorated during viewing, we presume by careless handling. Would all prospective buyers please be aware that the tear mentioned in the catalogue has progressed resulting in the lower left corner of the map becoming detached. Good restoration should not make this problem insurmountable.

ROD: B James & Son Ealing London The Avocet Angling Times Prize Rod 1956 with B James & Angling Times letters, whole cane butt, split cane middle and tip, no intermediate whips, red agate butt & tip guides, high bells intermediates whipped burgundy (tip section ferrule silk replaced) bronze ferrules, wood stoppers, 23" trumpet cork handle, red button, fine throughout c/w MOB includes a rare letter from B James hand signed on headed paper 13th June congratulating H. B. Goodall on winning the rod and outlines the time scale for building it, plus an Angling Times letter signed by Ken Sutton congratulating Mr Goodall, noting the rod has been ordered from B James c/w a paper cutting from the Angling Times re the capture of a Dace of 1 lb 2 oz 12 drms which won the rod for Mr Goodall.
