M[ARKHAM] (G[ervase]) The English Husbandman, drawne in Two Bookes, and Each Booke into Two Parts, 4to, 2 parts in 1, woodcut illustrations in text of knot gardens, etc., 19th c. bookplate of William, Earl Fitzwilliam on front pastedown, contemp. blind-ruled calf (rebacked), L., Sheares, 1635, bound with: The Pleasures of Princes, 1635STC 17358. The second edition, bringing together for the first time Books I and II of 'The English Husbandman', originally published separately in 1613 and 1614. Included in Book II, but with a separate title-page and pagination, is a treatise on angling and cock fighting, 'The Pleasures of Princes, or, Good Mens Recreations'.
A special edition Bernard Venables Aerial Centrepin fishing reel, numbered 29 of an edition of 100, made by Richard Carter of Traditional Angling, engraved and numbered 29 to the backplate, diameter 4.5 inch, and constructed from barstock aluminium with nickel silver and polished brass fittings with ratchet and brake mechanism, complete with glazed mahogany display case with green baize lining, certificate of authenticity signed by both Richard Carter and Bernard Venables and paperwork. Provenance - Purchased new by the current owner's uncle direct from Richard Carter of Traditional Angling during the 1990s.
