ROBERT CARVER (c.1730-c.1791) Extensive Landscape with figures angling on a lake under a castle ruin, oil on canvas, 29” (74cms) x 53” (135cms), with three mirror panels below, in a Georgian giltwood Trumeau mirror frame with egg and dart moulding and projecting corners each with a rosette, 56” (143cms) x 64” (163cms) overall. (1) Provenance: Originally in the collection at Westport House, Co. Mayo. According to a note pasted verso, ‘This picture formerly belonged to Mathew Scanderbeg De Rinzy ex Clobemon Hall, Co. Wexford, was purchased by me at the sale of his nephew Capt. Rizy, Castlebar, c.1866, Clobeman Hall is now the property of Mr. Dundas’. Born in Wexford, Ireland on 9 Dec 1836 to Mathew Thomas De Rinzy and Jane Richards Jessop. Matthew Scanderbeg married Henrietta Elizabeth Wallace and had 4 children. He passed away on 4 Feb 1874 in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.

ROD: Extremely rare Blacker Maker 54 Dean St., Soho London, 1842-1857 (author of The Art of Angling 1842), 11`6" 5 piece hickory/greenheart fly rod with decorative solid German silver reel seat, scroll engraved to both collars and butt cap, threaded removable base with storage for spare tip internally, nickel male spigot ferrules, early fold over bridge guides whipped burgundy, brass female ferrules, 1 stopper remaining, 1 tip ring requires replacement, fine.
WALL TILES, ENGRAVINGS & ASHTRAYS: (8) Three early engravings by A.H. Tourrier/Ben Jammans showing early angling/hunting scenes, very cavalier in their dress, in glazed wood frames 7"x5" and 3 x 4", wall tiles showing salmon flies against rod and line, Dun Turkey, Shannon and Beauty Snow Fly and a pair of Staffordshire porcelain ashtrays by Queensberry and Crown, each depicting trout flies in various patterns.
