Sergeant Pilot Later Squadron Leader Dennis Arthur Adams 611 & 41 Squadrons Battle of Britain and true account of his amazing experience in a London hotel in 1990 during the 50th Anniversary celebrations. On joining 41 Sqn Sgt Adams very quickly destroyed two enemy aircraft. Being only a Sgt Pilot, his C.O. Don Finlay refused to allow his claim and awarded them instead to The Squadron. Fifty years later in 1990 it still rankled with Sqn Ldr Adams. Not so much because he had been deprived of ace status and the possible award of a DFM but because in the defence of his country he was not given the deserved credit for the two attacking German aircraft he destroyed. Flight Sub-Lieutenant William Hargrave Harry Chisam. Born 15 Nov 1894 - Died 16 Aug 1972. Book: 'First World War Flying Ace.' Co- written and signed by his daughter Margaret Chisum Partington this excellent modest biography recounts the highly adventurous life of Harry Chisum born in Carlisle, worked in Canada with the RCMP before WWI, learned to fly in 1915 at Wright Field, Dayton, Ohio. In between the wars he worked in the dangerous oil business in Mexico, in WWII he was in Military Intelligence, and lived long enough to see Concorde fly. This evocative absorbing book is full of superb photographs and leaves the reader wanting to know so much more about this remarkable little known larger-than-life character. Good Condition.
