Norma Bassett Hall (New Mexico, Kansas, Oregon, 1889 - 1957) Serigraph. Pencil signed lower right. Titled "Home of a Spanish Cobbler" lower left. Born in Halsey, Oregon printmaker Norma Bassett Hall studied at the Portland Art Association in Oregon and graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago. Following an artist residency in Kansas, Hall traveled abroad and studied under British printmaker Mabel Royds. In 1942, Hall moved to New Mexico where she operated a summer art school with her husband, artist Arthur William Hall, and became part of the pioneer movement in the development of serigraphs of local Southwest scenes. Hall was a member of the Printmakers Society of California, Printmakers Society of Chicago, Northwest Printmakers, American Color Block Association and was one of the founders and a charter member of the Prairie Print Maker Society. Hall?s work was exhibited widely and was presented in solo exhibitions at the United States National Museum, Honolulu Academy of Arts and Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, France. Her work was also featured in issues of American Artist, American Magazine of Art and Print Connoisseur. Hall?s works are held in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, California State Library, University of Tulsa, University of Wichita, Currier Gallery of Art and the Bibliotheque Nationale.
