YAMAGISHI KAZUE (1891-1984) Showa era (1926-1989), circa 1930s An oban yoko-e titled Shichirigahama (Shichirigahama Beach, Kanagawa Prefecture), depicting Mount Fuji looming behind the beach at Enoshima, probably self-published; signed Kazue with two seals. 31cm x 41.1cm (12 3/16in x 16 3/16in). Footnotes: Yamagishi Kazue studied painting with Kuroda Seiki (1866-1924) and went on to carve woodblocks for many celebrated artists including Paul Jacoulet, Onchi Koshiro, Yoshida Hiroshi, and Takehisa Yumeji. From 1926 to 1929, he was sent to the United States and Europe by the Ministry of Education to demonstrate and promote Japanese woodblock-printing techniques. He published many woodblock prints of his own designs, such as this lot. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: * * VAT on imported items at a preferential rate of 5% on Hammer Price and the prevailing rate on Buyer's Premium.
