Parnell and his Lady Autographs A very good Autograph Book containing over 50 signatures of celebrities and others collected by a Miss Mary Burgess of Norwich, in a leatherbound book (somewhat shaken) with brass lock and key. Signatures include Winston Churchill, Charles Stewart Parnell 1889, Katharine [Kitty] Parnell 1891, Parnell’s memorial card 1891, Lloyd George, W.E. Gladstone, Harry Irving, Ellen Terry, Walter Crane, W.W. Asquith, Herbert Beerbohm Tree, etc. etc., some on slips laid down, with a few letters enclosed. Parnell’s signature with Katharine’s on same page is a rare combination.  Ms. Burgess apparently did not meet Churchill but sent her book to his secretary and he was happy to oblige.  (1)

London, George Allen 1894-1897. Mit 82 Tafeln, einem Doppeltitel, sieben Zwischentiteln und zahlreichen Kopf- und Schlussvignetten sowie Zierstücken von Walter Crane. Sieben Halbpergamentbände mit Rückenvergoldung.Eins von 1000 Exemplaren auf »handmade paper«. - Edmund Spensers episches Gedicht »Die Feenkönigin«), basierend auf Ariost und Tasso, entstand im 16. Jahrhundert und war Elisabeth I. gewidmet. Ursprünglich plante Spencer zwölf Bücher mit je zwölf Gesängen, hinterließ aber nur sechs Bücher und einige Fragmente. Jedes Buch ist einem Ritter und einer in ihm personifizierten Tugend (Frömmigkeit, Mäßigung, Keuschheit, Freundschaft, Höflichkeit) und den historischen Ereignissen um die Hinrichtung Maria Stuarts gewidmet. - Die reich verzierten Genredarstellungen, ergänzt um große Kopfvignetten, Zierstücke, reich geschmückte illustrierte Titelblätter, stellen einen Höhepunkt im Œuvre Walter Cranes dar. WALTER CRANE FOR MAW & CO; a large red lustre vase, circa 1891, of elongated ovoid form, painted with classical female figures, arms raised and crossed, holding oil lamps between snake-entwined trees and heart shaped border, painted mark to base, height 32.5cm. Additional InformationThere is an area of sprayed restoration to the inside of the rim, however this does appear to only be on the inside, rather than the outside. You can also feel a small rough area underneath the rim where it meets the body of the vase, and there are a couple of light surface scratches, and crazing throughout.
