He became a central figure in the Arts and Crafts movement and founded the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society in 1888. The present work depicts the Forest of Hardelot in northern France, which straddles the villages of Neufchâtel, Condette and Hardelot, near the town of Boulogne-sur-Mere.
