A Victorian truncheon for `Bridgwater Canal Policeman`:, with crown and VR cypher over text as per title, ribbed handle, 48.5cm long. *Note- Opened in 1761 Bridgewater canal is sometimes referred to as Britain`s first canal. Named after its owner Francis Egerton the Third Duke of Bridgewater, it was built to transport coal from his mines at Worsely to Manchester.

E; together with a George V painted wooden truncheon, decorated with a crown and a crest dated 1914-1918. The former 31 cms long. (2) CONDITION REPORTS: The former with paint losses, suspension hole drilled to handle, some slight paint splatters, general wear. The latter with minor paint loss and surface wear, slight wear to leather suspension handle.
