A Minton two handled vase and cover The white ground with a ribbon tied interlaced band enclosing roses above a frieze painted with roses, gilt jewelled border with scrolling leaves raised upon a plinth base, gilt coronet and globe mark circa 1900. 21cms, a Minton's two handled vase the white fluted ground decorated with roses and pendant leaves and flowers raised upon an oval base, red coronet and the globe mark circa 1900, 15cms, a Minton's table ink well, liner and cover with a blue frieze decorated with sprays of roses and flowers, green coronet and globe mark circa 1880, 10cms, two similar decorated tea and coffee cups and saucers and a side plate (8) CONDITION REPORT: Lot 1784: Two handled vase and cover - the cover, rubbing to gilt finial, crazing to the blue enamel ground, the two handled lower vase gilt bright no repairs or damage to handles, the white body overall crazing, a hairline crack running beneath the interlaced oval approx. 6cm, hairline crack running through the blue shouldered frieze enclosing the roundels with roses approx. 6cm and running in to the white lower tapering vase shaped frieze approx. 3.5cm and a second hairline crack to the same frieze, overall crazing to the blue enamel ground on the lower support and plinth, hairline crack running through the underside through the fixing central screw underneath the plinth. Two handled tapering vase decorated with roses damage to left hand handle broken and re glued traces of glue just beneath the angular shoulder and restoration to the sea scroll, lower part of handle, piece missing and glue showing, surface scratching to the white ground and some surface crazing, minor rubbing to the gilt oval foot rim. Inkwell cover and liner - the cover - possible old damage to the branch handle at the end, possibly repainted, circular stand - possibly repainted, circular stand - rubbing to the inner gilt of the inkwell holder, no cracks chips or restorations, decoration good condition, gilt work good condition with the exception of the inner part of the stand, the inkwell - good condition, minor rubbing to the inner gilt rim. Tall cup and saucer - minor rubbing to the gilt rim and the gilt on handle, saucer - minor rubbing to the rim, some surface scratching to the inner well. Wide cup and saucer - overall freckling to the white and blue ground of the cup and saucer, otherwise good condition. Small side plate - overall crackle glazing, minor chip to the blue enamel rim.
A French variegated marble and gilt metal portico mantle clock With a 9.5cm white enamel dial with Arabic numerals painted with festoons, pierced foliate hands, the two train Samuel Marti movement, Paris 1900, No: 1020 with outside count wheel striking on a saucer bell, the drum case surmounted with a vase of blooms eagles and leaves, the rectangular veined marble plinth with flambeau finials supported by columns with gilt metal mounts, visible mask and sunburst pendulum raised upon a rectangular plinth with a gilt metal leaf and shell mount raised upon four toupie feet with two keys. A late 18th Century ebonised bracket clock With a 20cm arched dial signed Thomas Walter, London on a sunken silvered sector in the matted centre above a calendar aperture, the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with pierced blued steel hands, leaf and foliate spandrels, strike silent ring in the arch enclosed foliate mounts, the four pillar movement with twin fusee's, strike on bell with anchor escapement, the back plate engraved with a central urn on a pedestal enclosed within an oval and flanked with trailing flowers, foliate engraved movement securing brackets to the case, the pendulum with adjusting screw, the case with a bell top, fish scale frets to the sides, brass side carrying handles, plain glass spandrels to the front door raised upon a plinth base. 50cms high x 30.5cms x 17.5cms. (illustrated) CONDITION REPORT: The ebonised case - the bell shape top surface scratching, the hinged door hinges, tight, centre screws missing to right hand hinge, glazed door old putty appears to be the original glass, glass spandrels fixed with pins possibly original, lacking escutcheon, some discolouration to strike silent ring in the arch, pointer possibly not original. gilt leafy applied border to ring good condition, spandrels some minor rubbing, silver chaptering rubbed, hands would appear to be original, some rubbing to silvered name plate and square aperture, gilt metal fretwork sides replaced and red ground behind with card backing replaced, overhead saucer bell possibly replaced, movement now with anchor escapement, signs on the rectangular engraved back plate of circular apertures possibly relating to an earlier verge escapement which would have had a short bob pendulum which now has possible a later pendulum, movement not working, side carrying handles old but possibly added later.
A 19th Century gilt spelter figural mantle clock With a 8cm white enamel dial with Roman numerals, the two train eight day movement with outside count wheel striking on a saucer bell, the case surmounted with an urn and flanked by children playing musical instruments raised upon a brake front plinth base. 31.5cms high x 41cms.
A 30 hour hook and spike wall clock, 18th Century With a 25cm brass dial, unsigned with Roman and Arabic numerals, cast mask and leaf spandrels, posted movement with anchor escapement striking the hour, saucer bell lacking, spandrel loose, with pendulum NB: Possibly by Richard Giles, who worked in Addebury, Oxen around 1736 he was from a Quaker family probably the original user of the zig zag dial decoration which is seen in this example.
An early 19th Century oak and mahogany inlaid longcase clock With a 30cm white arched dial signed Wainwright, Nottingham with subsidiary date aperture painted with a finch, foliate spandrels, the arch painted with a maiden beside an anchor with masted vessels out to sea, the single train 30 hour movement with outside count wheel striking on a saucer bell, the case with a swan neck cresting with brass roundels and a brass sphere finial above fluted brass cap columns, the crossbanded trunk door inlaid with stringing raised upon a plinth base with pendulum and one weight. 180cms high x 46cms.
An 18th Century oak longcase clock With a 28cm brass dial signed Binch, Liverpool with Roman and Arabic numerals and subsidiary date aperture, cast mask and scroll spandrels the single train 30 hour movement with outside count wheel striking on a saucer bell, the slender case with a cavetto cornice above slender turned square headed columns, the trunk with a shaped long door, brass escutcheon raised upon a plinth base and bracket feet. 193cms x 39cms wide x25cms. Good colour *** Brian Loomes records (watch makers and clock makers of the world volume ll, Binch working from 1767-1777. With pendulum, one weight, wood wheel and lead weight. CONDITION REPORT: The case, minor damage beneath the cavetto cornice approx. 4cmsx0.25cms, glass door original, original putty border good colour to hood, the long door some movement in the drop hinge, door not fitting flush particularly at the bottom gap of 1.5cms, old repair to edge of the top of the door and a small piece of moulding missing, some surface scratching, good colour, minor surface scratching, old split to plinth base and a minor division between the left and right hand boards to the face of the plinth showing daylight, original long back board, bracket feet old, traces of lacquering to the brass chaptering, original hands, the movement would appear to be in good condition with pendulum, one weight, two extra lead wheels.
A George III inlaid mahogany longcase clock With a 31cm arched brass dial with a silver chapter ring signed Helm , Ormskirk with subsidiary seconds, the centre engraved with mask and scrolling leaves, leafy mask spandrels, the two train eight day movement with anchor escapement, rack striking on a saucer bell, the case with a swan neck cresting with flower terminals and urn finials above a glazed panel painted with leaves above turned wood columns, the trunk with a long door, well figured wood flanked by quarter columns raised upon a panelled plinth base with two weights, pendulum and movement winding key, glazed door cracked. approximately 231cms x width of plinth 50x25cms. CONDITION REPORT: Condition Report Lot 2115 - not in working order. date approx 1780-1800 The case, turned finials on left and right hand side possibly replaced, central finial possibly replaced traces of glue beneath the plinth on which it sits, old polish within the flowers, some rubbing to the glazed panels to the gilt the arched glass with an extended crack from left to right, the hinges are loose particularly the top hinge requires strengthening, some movement to the lower hinge, piece of veneer missing to the corner of the top of the upright column on the left hand side, lower plinth to the upright column piece of plinth missing at the back, return moulding right hand side beneath the right hand column piece of moulding missing at the back measures approx. 10cmsx0.25cms long door, some movement to the top hinge requires tightening, slight drop to the right hand side minor, the case possibly polished, some scratching to the plinth, some scratching to the bracket feet particularly the right hand side, original back board with old tape running the full length upto plinth, inside of the hood an old canvas applied on the left hand side and two strips of the right hand side where old splits have been brought together, the arched dial the seconds hand bent, scratching to the silver chaptering and scratches to the metal below, some scratching to the outer gilt brass ground, original foot board, repair to the wire upright which guides the pendulum, movement dusty not running, one winding wheel attached to cat gut one winding wheel separated, repair to the pendulum, the bob scratched. IN MY OPINION THE DIAL, MOVEMENT AND CASE BELONG TOGETHER.
An 19th Century inlaid mahogany longcase clock With a 36cm white dial signed James Newport, Macclesfield with subsidiary seconds and date aperture, Roman numerals, the spandrels painted with a dwelling and churches the two train eight day movement with anchor escapement, rack striking on a saucer bell, the case with a swan neck cresting with brass rosette terminals above turned wood columns, the trunk with a shaped inlaid door flanked by baluster ring turned columns raised upon a plinth base with canted angles and bracket feet. 220cms x width of plinth 54cms x 23cms with two weights and a pendulum.
