RENÉ QUÉRÉ (1932 Ploaré - 2021 Douarnenez, Frankreich) MatrosenÖl auf Leinwand.54 x 65 cm.Unten links mit Pinsel in Schwarz signiert "R QUERE".In seinen Arbeiten thematisiert der französische Maler und Keramiker Réné Quérés häufig seine enge Verbundenheit mit der Gemeinde Douarnenez im Westen Frankreichs. Quéré zeigt, wie auch in unserem Werk „Matrosen“, die Welt der Seeleute und den Charme der bretonischen Landschaft seines Geburtsortes. Sein Studium der Bildendern Kunst absolvierte er in den 1950er Jahren in Quimper bei Jos Le Corre und Pierre Toulhoat. Ab 1956 waren seine Arbeiten in Kollektivausstellungen und später in Einzelausstellungen in der Bretagne, Paris, Belgien sowie in Deutschland zu sehen.

XLVI.Pieter de Grebbers Gemälde Mariä Verkündigung entstand 1633, ein Jahr, nachdem der Künstler in die Haarlemer Sankt Lukas-Gilde aufgenommen worden war. Dieser hatte bereits sein Vater, der katholische Historienmaler und Porträtist Frans Pietersz de Grebber (1573-1649) angehört. Weder der Auftraggeber noch der anschließende Verbleib des Tafelbildes sind bekannt. Im Jahr 1909 tauchte es erstmals in Köln auf, wo es bei J. M. Heberle (H. Lempertz' Söhne) zur Auktion kam. Jetzt kehrt das viel gepriesene Meisterwerk de Grebbers zum Kunsthaus Lempertz zurück, nachdem es fast 50 Jahre lang als Leihgabe aus Privatbesitz im Niedersächsischen Landesmuseum Hannover hing. Pieter de Grebber zählt zu den wenigen katholischen Künstlern der nördlichen Niederlande, die ihren Glauben auch in ihrer Kunst ausdrückten. Sein Werk ist im Charakter katholisch, sowohl in der Wahl der Thematik als auch im Einsatz von Licht und der Inszenierung. Auch wenn der Katholizismus seit 1578 offiziell in der Republik Holland verboten war, blieb die katholische Kirche im Untergrund aktiv, insbesondere in der Stadt Haarlem mit ihrem sehr aktiven Ordenskapitel, das viele wichtige Aufträge vergab. Von diesem Mäzenatentum profitierte vor allem der Haarlemer De Grebber. Er erhielt zahlreiche Aufträge von „versteckten“ Kirchen, auch außerhalb Haarlems. Daneben malte er Altarbilder für Städte der südlichen Niederlande wie Brügge und Gent. Auf der anderen Seite wurde De Grebber als Historienmaler der führende Vertreter des sogenannten Haarlemer Klassizismus, und als solcher ab den späten 1630er Jahren bevorzugter Maler von Friedrich Heinrich, Prinz von Oranien (1584-1647), für den er zahlreiche Schlösser ausstattete. Dieser Stil orientierte sich an dem klassizistischen Barockstil des Flamen Peter Paul Rubens.De Grebber konzentriert in seiner Verkündigung das Geschehen auf die beiden brillant gemalten und monumental inszenierten Figuren des Erzengels Gabriel und der Jungfrau Maria, die vor wolkigem, grauem Grund die Bildfläche beherrschen. Der Verzicht auf jegliche Ausgestaltung des Gemachs der Maria betont den überirdischen Vorgang der Verkündigung, wie auch die Wolken, aus denen der prächtig gewandete Himmelsbote mit geöffneten Flügeln erscheint (Luk. 1, 26-35). Die am Lesepult knieende Maria hat die Hände vieldeutig erhoben und blickt auf die Stelle im Buch des Alten Testaments, die ihr der Engel mit dem Olivenzweig weist: „Ecce virgo concipiet et pariet filium“. Es sind die Worte des Propheten aus dem Buch Jesaja, die die Geburt des Gottessohnes durch die Jungfrau voraussagen (Jesaja 7, 14). Zum Zeichen der Herkunft seiner Botschaft deutet Gabriel mit der Rechten zum Himmel. Über der Verkündigungsgruppe schwebt der Heilige Geist in Gestalt der Taube. Diese für Pieter de Grebber typische erzählerische Klarheit der Darstellung wird von einer eindrucksvollen Lichtführung unterstützt.Auf die ungewöhnliche Ikonographie des Bildes, die auch in De Grebbers Katholizismus begründet ist, wies A. Blankert hin (siehe Ausst. Kat. Gods, Saints and Heroes, 1980/81, S. 194). Der Engel trägt ein Diakonsgewand aus schwerem Brokat mit goldenem Granatapfelmuster. Ein solches trägt nach den Regeln der katholischen Liturgie der Diakon während der Eucharistiefeier. Statt der üblichen Lilie, dem Symbol der Reinheit Mariens, hält der Engel einen Olivenzweig in der Hand, der ein Friedenssymbol ist. Der Olivenzweig und das katholische Ornat können als eine Stellungnahme zur politischen Situation in den Niederlanden und als Ausdruck des Friedenswunsches interpretiert werden. Das Gemälde entstand zum Zeitpunkt von Friedensverhandlungen zwischen den nördlichen Niederlanden und Spanien.Im Jahr 1633 schuf De Grebber zwei weitere Gemälde für römisch-katholische Kirchen in den nördlichen Niederlanden. A. Blankert (a.a.O.) verweist auf die sehr ähnliche Pose der Maria im Gemälde „Anbetung der Hirten“ in der Kirche von Oude-Ade bei Leiden. Das zweite Gemälde, eine „Kreuzabnahme“, malte De Grebber für die Kirche in Enkhuizen, wo sein Schwager Priester war (Abb. 1; heute im Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, Nr. A2311). A. Blankert vermutet, dass auch vorliegendes Gemälde für eine („versteckte“) römisch-katholische Kirche oder für eine private Kapelle bestimmt war und sich damit außerhalb des Blickfeldes der Öffentlichkeit befand.
