A Prattware Duke of York and Prince Coburg Jug, circa 1794, of baluster shape, moulded on one side with the Duke of York, on the other with Prince Coburg, with some detail picked out in colours, 18.5cm high. From 1793-1795 Frederick Augustus, Duke of York and Albany (1763-1827), second son of George III, commanded the British in Flanders. His contingent of 10,000 men was part of the army of Prince Josias of Saxe-Coburg. These jugs were probably made to celebrate the victorious campaigns of 1793. A jug of this type is illustrated in Lewis (John & Griselda) Pratt Ware, Antique Collectors Club, pg168.
