Captain Henry Trollope had an active role in the American Revolutionary War but is perhaps better known for his convincing a number of crews (by threatening open-fire) to return to duty during the turbulent Nore Mutiny in March and April 1797. He was also granted the Order of the Bath for his command under Admiral Duncan at Camperdown in October 1797.The title for Collingwood inscribed in brown on the neck of the smallest jug obscures the moulded title for 'Captain Berry' underneath. Seemingly, the manufacturers felt the portraits were suitably interchangeable and it may be that after Trafalgar, they wanted to commemorate the two men, Nelson and Collingwood, who led each column in the infamous attack without having to design an updated mould. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
