The next year, they introduced the Aquanaut Ref:5065 'Jumbo', which had a larger case of 38mm in diameter. The 5065 was a popular model that combined sportiness and luxury with a similar design to the Nautilus. In 2007 it was replaced by the Aquanaut Ref:5165 and Ref:5167. The most noticeable difference presented in the 5165 was the gentler, rounder grooves to the dial that complement the shape of the case. Attention was also paid to how the rubber strap aligns to the case to make a smoother transition between the materials. The 5165 was in production for just 5 years before being discontinued in favour of its counterpart the 5167.The current lot, a Ref:5165A, benefits from a recent service at Patek Philippe in May 2023 and is still in sealed service condition. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

His exceptional talent caught the eye of Patek Philippe, and by the age of 25 he was working in Philippe’s workshop, where he revolutionized watch design. Breaking away from conventional forms, Albert introduced asymmetrical cases and sculptural aesthetics, creating iconic timepieces that transcended mere functionality. His groundbreaking “Ricochet” series, celebrated for its daring geometry, earned him three prestigious Diamonds International Awards during his tenure—recognition that solidified his status as a leading innovator in horology. In 1962, Albert opened his own atelier, transforming the unconventional into the extraordinary with materials such as meteorites, fossilised bones, and the exoskeletons of scarab beetles. His philosophy was to preserve the inherent beauty of nature without alteration, a principle that infused his jewellery with an air of mystery and allure.Among his most iconic pieces is the innovative necklace with interchangeable beads, which affords its wearer a highly individualised expression of beauty. His work often featured the sacred beetle pattern, paying homage to ancient cultures that revered these creatures. His passing in October 2019 has been exceeded by the legacy Gilbert Albert left behind, with his creations highly sought after in auction houses worldwide, celebrated as masterpieces of both art and nature. A LIMITED EDITION MEN'S PATEK PHILIPPE PLATINUM AND 18K ROSE GOLD AUTOMATIC WRISTWATCH. GRAND COMPLICATION CELESTIAL.Brand: Patek Philippe Model: Grand Complication Celestial Case reference: 5102PR Year: Circa 2011 Movement: Complication, automatic, Cal. 240/165, No. 550XXXX Dial: Blue with a constellation representation, moon-phase, white leaf hands, silvered Roman numerals Material: Platinum and 18k rose gold Bracelet/Strap: Black leather, 18k rose gold buckle Signed: Dial, movement, case, strap, buckle Dimension: 43mm A Masterpiece of Horological Innovation: Patek Philippe Celestial Ref. 5102Launched in 2002, the Patek Philippe Celestial Ref. 5102 stands as one of the most significant horological innovations in modern watchmaking. For the first time, a breathtaking rendition of the Northern Hemisphere’s celestial chart was dynamically brought to the wrist. This astronomical complication captures the beauty and movement of the stars with unprecedented precision. The celestial chart on the dial rotates counterclockwise, displaying the progression of stars relative to the meridian passage of Sirius, one of the brightest stars in the night sky. At the same time, the watch showcases both the meridian passage and the phases of the moon, all working in perfect harmony. Patek Philippe undertook immense research, calculating over 25 trillion ratio combinations to ensure the utmost accuracy for all the astronomical displays of the Ref. 5102. This remarkable achievement reflects the extraordinary challenges faced by Patek Philippe’s master watchmakers in producing such a complex and precise timepiece. At the heart of the Ref. 5102 lies the sophisticated automatic Calibre 240 LU CL movement, composed of 301 individual parts, each meticulously hand-finished by Patek Philippe’s expert craftsmen. This highly complicated movement powers the various celestial displays, with three corundum sapphire crystal discs simulating the orbits of the moon and the passage of the stars. The use of these sapphire discs creates a stunning sense of depth on the dial, enhancing the overall visual impact of the watch. For this groundbreaking invention, Patek Philippe was awarded a Swiss Patent (CH 688 171 B5) for the base calibre, underscoring the technical prowess and ingenuity behind the Ref. 5102.The final and most striking iteration of the Celestial, the Ref. 5102PR, was introduced at Baselworld 2009 in a combination of platinum and 18k rose gold, following earlier versions in white and yellow gold. This final configuration presented a perfect balance of color and texture, enhancing the watch’s luxurious appeal. The Ref. 5102PR was discontinued in 2012, succeeded by the Ref. 6102, which introduced a redesigned case and an additional date complication integrated into the celestial chapter ring.As one of the last models of its kind, the Ref. 5102PR is celebrated not only for its technical brilliance but also for its aesthetic sophistication. Collectors and enthusiasts alike consider this timepiece a rare and important part of Patek Philippe’s storied legacy of innovation. 43mm.

From exceptionally humble beginnings, Carnegie would use a combination of ruthless efficiency, creative thinking and opportunity-seeking to establish his industrial empire before embracing an era of philanthropy.Born in 1835, Carnegie grew up in near poverty in Dunfermline, Scotland. Times were hard and whilst Carnegie was very young, the struggles to find local work led to the family emigrating to the US in 1848. It was in Pittsburgh that Carnegie first demonstrated his mettle and under the mentorship of Pennsylvania Railroad General Superintendent Thomas A. Scott (1823-1881) the foundations were laid that turned him from messenger boy to famous Industrialist. As Scott's personal secretary and with his ability to spot opportunities during the American Civil War, it was not long before Carnegie's connection to the iron and steel industries began in earnest. Bridge building, along with mining and rail building, would go on to be the three cornerstones of his monumental empire. By 1901, nearing the age of 70, Carnegie's ethos on life had changed. He craved more family time and thus sold Carnegie Steel to John Pierpoint Morgan for a staggering $480 million dollars. It was this deal that catapulted him to the position of wealthiest man in the world. From this point on Carnegie devoted his time and energy to donating his vast wealth to charitable organisations and initiatives. As well as the world-famous Carnegie Hall in New York he also left over 2500 public libraries, numerous organisations dedicated to the pursuit of science, peace and education and the remaining $135m of his fortune to the Carnegie Corporation of New York as part of his legacy. It was in this era of giving that the current lot was gifted by Carnegie and his wife Louise to Claud Strachan Carnegie. Little is known about who Claud was but most likely it refers to Claud Cathcart Rennie-Strachan-Carnegie of Seaton House, Angus. Claud had left a strong impression on Carnegie and this is reflected in the engraving on the cuvette which reads 'Presented to my dear kinsman Claud Strachan Carnegie marking twenty five years of warmest friendship from Andrew & Louise Carnegie, October 1912' and a monogram of CSC further decorates the case. With an eye for the finer things in life, it is not unsurprising that they chose a Patek Philippe to represent their gratitude.Patek Philippe have produced some of the finest ultra complicated watches in history with fantastic examples on either side of the introduction of computer aided design. The current lot features a perpetual calendar, moon phase and is also minute repeating. This was not some throwaway token but a real execution of fine and complicated timekeeping that demonstrated a true appreciation of friendship. This watch is being offered on behalf of a Scottish Family and has never been offered at auction before. It offers a truly rare and exceptional once in a lifetime opportunity to own a piece a history – one that represents the fusing of horological accomplishment, philanthropic endeavour and industrial legacy. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
