Follower of Harry Hall (c.1814-1882)Horse and groom standing in an extensive landscapeOil on canvas, 40cm by 50.5cmFairly stiffly relined, cleaned and revarnished. The surface is somewhat flattened and the paint is thin in places as a result of the restoration process. Now covered in a thick layer of discoloured dirt and varnish, and presents an opaque quality in numerous parts, especially in the lower 50%. Some minor rubbing/abrasions to edges in general, with more pronounced framing residue along lower edge.  Some general strengthening to the overall outline of the standing gentleman/groom, with some additional fairly minor strengthening and infilling consistently through his left arm and more sporadically along his right arm and through his overcoat. His hands, the reins, bridle, and linear detailing of the outline of the horse and saddle have also been reinforced, with areas of slightly more consistent strengthening to the seat of the saddle, the horse's upper back, right leg, and the tail. Some likely general strengthening through foreground, with further historic retouches to outer edges, mostly in a vertical linear fashion in line with abrasions caused by historic framing. Fairly subtle circular indentation to lower right hand corner, with two small losses along upper edge, another to approximate centre right hand edge, and another to right of centre lower edge, etc. Frame in a broadly good, complete and stable state of preservation. Odd minor loss, imperfection, crack consistant with age.
