Steindorff & Co - An early 20th century microscope by Steindorff & Co in Berlin, no. 38963. Featuring a black metal body, and brass detailing. Housed in a fitted box, with extra lenses and label from J.S. Fry & Sons Ltd. Measuring approx. 35cm (without box). Provenance: The vendor's father worked in the laboratories at Fry's chocolate factory in Somerdale Keynsham in 1938 as an Industrial chemist and retired from Cadburys as a chief analyst in the 1970s. The microscope would have been used to examine samples of raw ingredients prior to their use in the manufcature of choclate. In the 1960s, laboratories were modernised and old apparatus was scrapped and replaced.
