A fine cabinet piano by Astor & Co., English, circa 1814-15 the case attributed to LOUIS CONSTANTIN LE GAIGNEUR 6 octaves , FFF to f3 234cm high, 114cm wide, 63cm deep An important English Regency period cabinet piano by Astor and Co, 79 Cornhill Street London. In best black Brazillian rosewood, the scrolled pediment in the manner of Thomas Hope, with ormolu mounts centred by Apollo?s lyre. Supported by a cast ormolu and premiere ? partie brass inlaid rosewood frieze. The pediment supported on richly carved buttresses, above further panels of premiere partie inlaid brass. The cabinet door filled with a sunburst of silk centred by cast and gilt bronze mask of Louis XIV as Apollo, surrounded by cast gilt bronze fillets, with leafy lyre spandrels to the corners. The keyboard lid similarly inlaid and mounted, to the inside and outside, with central brass engraved tablet ASTOR & Co.79 Cornhill Street, London. Supported on turned and reeded brass mounted legs on patent ball casters, the doors to the lower cabinet with gilt bronze fillets to the panels; the central panels inlaid in premiere partie brass arabesques, in the manner of the 17th century French court cabinet maker Jean Bèrain Arguably the finest example of English Regency period casework ever conceived for a cabinet pianoforte, the present lot represents an opportunity for Australian purchasers to acquire an item of international significance. Provenance: W.F. Bradshaw Pianoforte Collection Exhibited: The Pianoforte Past. The Queen Street Galleries c. 1990 Catalogue Number 14. ?Unquestionably the most splendid piano in the collection. With its profuse brass inlay (even on the pedals) and lavish gilt ormolu mounts, it must surely have been made for a setting as opulent as the Pavillion at Brighton or Carlton House. A most unusual feature is the cresting atop the cornice ? an elegant lyre harp centred with a broken pediment finished with cast Grecian scrolls which are in turn mounted with cast finely detailed paterae. Originally this instrument was constructed as a cabinet grand. However at an early stage of manufacture, Astor and Co would appear to have changed their minds and finished it as a bi chord cabinet piano. The great height of the piano approaches that of the upright grand?. A note accompanying this lot by W.F. Bradshaw states that the piano was acquired in Upper St, Clapham, London and that the owner had previously acquired the piano from a person who believed that it had been owned by Mrs Fitzherbert. ASTOR & Co. George Peter Astor , born 1752, after his apprenticeship in Germany, went to London about 1778. He was followed a year later by his brother John Jacob Astor (1763 ? 1848). In 1783, early in the development of the firm, John Jacob Astor began travelling to the newly formed United States of America to sell pianos and flutes. He established a shop at 81 Queen Street (now Pearl Street) in New York City , which at the time was the heart of the musical instrument and furniture business. He became involved in the highly profitable fur trade, sending furs to the UK in exchange for pianos that were manufactured by his brother. The profits were invested in fur trading stations in America and real estate in New York City. At the turn of the century, the Astor family were the wealthiest family in New York City. George Peter Astor maintained the piano manufactory initially at Holywell Street London. In the late 1790s , Astor moved to 79 Cornhill Street London. In 1801 the partners with George Astor were George Horwood and Benjamin Banks. After Astor?s death in 1813, his widow continued on the business until 1815 as Astor and Horwood.

This is a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Kerry Farrant. Kerry says ""I have taken part in this amazing project because at the age of 28 and 12 wks pregnant my life changed forever. Having to go through surgery to have my left breast removed while carrying my unborn baby was a difficult thing to face but I knew I had no choice as I needed to fight this awful disease all the way to the end so I could be here for my then 2 yr old daughter and the daughter I hadn?t met yet. Having one breast was a weird and scary experience getting young hip bras was near on impossible, but that was the least of my problems I had to still face my 6 sessions of chemotherapy and 15 sessions of radiotherapy oh yes and of course give birth. After 4 chemo?s and 34 wks pregnant I was inducted and my beautiful baby Esmay was born 3lb 14oz and perfectly formed. I went on to have the rest of my chemo and radio then herceptin. I?m 5 yrs since diagnosis now, I have had 2 further breast operations and although I don?t have any nipples or feeling in my breasts I?m happy with what I have and I?m happy to be alive I wanted to share my breast cast with everyone to show that you can still look normal and that surgeons can do marvellous things. My baby Esmay has just started school and I thank all the hospital staff that made it possible for me and her to be here today to share the experiences of life"". Kerry`s cast was painted by artist John Frith of Art by Frithy. ""When I was first asked to contribute to this amazing project, I was a little daunted about such a sensitive issue, but seeing the enthusiasm of Sue Smith and all the other ladies involved, how could I possibly say no? It took me a while to decide what to paint on the cast I was given, and it was hanging around the studio for a bit while I sought inspiration. Then it came, a pair of chimps! My technique is fairly loose; I have had no formal training and just do what comes into my head at the time with whatever materials are to hand!"" This is a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Stephanie Fairbrother. Stephanie says. "" My story starts in June 2007 when I had a right breast mastectomy due to Stage 3 cancer. The invading article was apparent 5cm big which shocked me. The one thing which I begged my surgeon to keep was my nipple. I felt that I could cope with the whole operation if at the end of the day I still had the nipple which gave me the feeling that I was still a woman. I had a reconstruction during the same op and wow did it look good. Unfortunately the cancer came back in the lymph nodes in 2009 so another op was needed to remove those, all bar one of the little blighters were removed which then started me on a long road of chemo. After chemo came 5 weeks of 5 days of radio. I took that in my stride until the Monday after my last session and wow had I burnt. After that it was a year`s worth of herceptin, the leg aches continued on herceptin but I coped. I had been experiencing problems with the reconstructed breast so my Consultant (a fantastic lady - Mrs Celia Smith) wrote to the plastics department at Broomfield Hospital Chelmsford. Well 13 months later I was admitted for a DIEP op. My surgeon who I had only met the day before had major problems with me, instead of being in theatre for 7 hours I came out after 13 ! When I was opened up what I mess I looked as the implant had burst but was still encapsulated thank goodness. Things seemed to be going well until the 17th week after the op when I had a seroma which burst through part of the scaring and took most of the fat from the breast with it. Anyway to cut a long story short after four more ops and another seroma later we have decided liposuction is not for me as my body rejects it each time. We (my Consultant and I) will now have to discuss ways in which I can have a boob and be even sized"". Stephanie`s cast was decorated by artist Esme Crick. ""I realised this was a big project with lots of casts being taken from lots of women, who all were affected by breast cancer in some way, I decided to work with that `ripple effect`- you know, people helping people, women supporting women, men supporting women who support them. From immediate family to friends, to nurses, health staff, there`s this infinite network. If you can tap into that then the world is a better place. I sent out a message on Facebook just to see if anyone wanted to help by crocheting a flower. Amazing response, with over 120 flowers arriving through my letterbox, and friends handing me envelopes full of flowers too. Flowers came from all over the UK, and Australia, the USA and the Continent too. It was so touching, especially as some people had made their flower in memory of a loved one. Quite overwhelming. I used as many as I could on Steph`s cast, and just added a butterfly made by me as a symbol of me flying in to this project, rather than being the centre of it"". This is a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Gail Watts. Gail says ""In 2009 within a month of each other my beautiful sister aged 38 and my lovely mother in law were both diagnosed with breast cancer. Both had very different extreme treatments, my sister had lumpectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Mother in law had mastectomy and reconstructions. Thankfully both continue to be survivors ( long may they continue to be healthy) So I decided I was lucky enough to be healthy and fit enough to raise money for breast cancer charities, I`ve taken part in 3 marathons and jumped at the chance to be part of this wonderful crazy project. I live in hope of a total cure for all Cancer"". Gail`s cast was painted by artist Laura Turner of Lolli Pop Art. ""I really like pop art and found out that the model Gail did too. I had a rough idea that I wanted to base it around a picture I had seen of Bridgett Bardot, where she was wrapped in a towel (holding her boobs!). Bardot herself had survived breast cancer, and became a campaigner for research into treatment. I wanted to make sure I did something bright, bold and that stood out from the other casts (much like Gail herself!). I wasn`t sure if anyone else involved did pop art, so I made it look a little more `cartoon` like than I would normally paint"". The approximate size of this cast is 15 inches x 8 inches. This is a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Jane Crockett. Jane says ""The timing of this exciting project is perfect for me as I am now celebrating my five year anniversary since being diagnosed with breast cancer and will finish hormone therapy in October. Soon after my mastectomy and immediate DIEP reconstruction I became involved with supporting ladies who are considering or going through reconstruction. I also volunteer at Star Throwers, a wonderful cancer care centre in Wymondham. Having my cast done celebrates not only my survival but also the fantastic work of my plastic surgeon at NNUH. I have made so many good friends through having breast cancer that I view this phase of my life as a positive and happy one. I certainly look at life differently now! I hope the project raises awareness and will give encouragement to ladies affected by this awful disease"". Jane`s cast was decorated by artist Rebecca Yarnton. `With this cast, I decided I wanted to make a piece of earth art, and chose some leaves from my Mum`s garden. After covering with the leaves, I felt a pull towards using string or twine to add shape and texture, so I decided on garden twine to keep the natural colouring. I was concerned that the leaves be protected as much as possible, so sprayed the whole thing with several layers of acrylic in order to do so`. This is a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Nicola Daykin. Nicola says, ""Sometimes it feels like a piece of the jigsaw puzzle is missing. I have 2 sisters and the statistic I always remember is that 1 in 3 women will get Breast Cancer. So when you look to your left and to your right to the people you love most in the world it is unimaginable to think of what might be. And when you add into the equation that my maternal grandmother and aunt both were diagnosed and treated for Breast Cancer the realisation that it is very close to home is quite stark. I will never know if my mother would have suffered as she died when I was 11, so as I say the piece of this jigsaw is missing. I have witnessed the devastation that a diagnosis, treatment and unfortunately loss that Breast Cancer had in a close friend and their family and if I am honest it strikes fear into me. So I can either wait and see if and when it might happen which is something that I have no control over, or I can do something to raise awareness of Suffolk Breakthrough Breast Cancer and hopefully raise a bit of money as well. Now your average cake bake is clearly way more in my comfort zone than having your bust on show for half the county! But with Keri and Sue and a little gentle persuasion from friends and having seen the beautiful finished sculptures, then if all I can give it some time, then I am privileged to volunteer. What an amazing way to show that no matter who you are, what you do, or where you come from, each of us is different and yet united by being women no matter what our shape or size. So I have stepped out of my comfort zone, and am proud to have my bust on show for all to see (of course all in a good cause!)"". Nicola`s cast has been decorated by artist Kim Whittingham. ""I was very happy to take part in such a worthwhile project. I have several friends who have battled with breast cancer and therefore contributing towards raising the profile of the message for October and hopefully to raise some money through the auction was a natural option for me.I wanted to produce artwork for the cast which combined my specific areas as an artist and illustrator, so I covered the cast with decoupage copies of a selection of my paintings, local Bury St.Edmunds architecture, Cambridge,Venice, reflections and still life images.I very much enjoyed producing the artwork, decoupage was a new experience for me!"". www.kimwhittingham.org. This is a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Christina Petitt. Christina says, ""Hello my name is Christina. My cast represents my excitement and passion to be involved in this project. My story is one of two halves. In 1997 my best friend and I both found lumps in our breasts. We both had hospital appointments on the same day. I will always remember that phone calI, asking me how I had got on, with me explaining mine was a fluid cyst. She explained that hers wasn`t, hers was cancer. My fluid cysts were drained and I have continued to have my recurring cysts drained sometimes twice a year since then. Fiona has been gone 13 years now she was 38 and I dedicate my cast to my dear friend Fi.I would like my cast to represent that Not all lumps are cancer, and Not all lumps are cysts. Get it checked"". Christina`s cast was decorated by artist Caroline Blake, ""I paint vivid, embellished trees and these seemed really appropriate to decorate the cast as a tree as that makes for strong, life giving images. My trees are all mixed media-bright and full of flowers, glitter and gems-loud and proud -to honour the cause and the struggle of individuals undergoing treatment, but also to celebrate the body in every shape and form. I wanted to use the curves of the breast cast and have the trees growing off the cast in an exuberant way. I used twigs and 3D flowers to achieve this"". This is a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Bianca Carpenter. Bianca says, ""I`m Bianca, I`m a healthy 27 year old who eats well and runs 3 times a week as I enjoy taking part in running events such as half marathons and of course the race for life which myself and my mum enter every year. I found a lump in my left breast in July and on August 13th 2014 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Rather than feel sorry for myself and sad I`ve decided to be as positive and upbeat as I can. I`ve chosen to have a cast of my breasts done to help promote awareness of breast cancer in young women and to get it out there that women need to be checking their breasts what ever age they are. So let`s raise money as well as awareness and kick cancers butt together. Bianca`s cast was decorated by artist Keri Bird, ""The idea behind the art on Bianca`s cast, is that the art signifies a white swan. For me, a white swan has the following meaning which I find really poignant: ? LOVE - It sometimes takes something so tragic to happen in our lives to realise how loved we are, and how much we love others. Since Bianca`s diagnosis I have seen the love and support so many people have shown her. ? BEAUTY - Bianca is a beautiful, young 27 year old whose life has been turned upside down at such a young age. Her strength and positivity at such a difficult time, has demonstrated to me what a beautiful person she is on the inside, and out. The Simply The Breast project has also been a way to show that we are all different shapes and sizes, and no matter what, you are still beautiful. ? ELEGANCE - Bianca has carried herself with such elegance through this difficult time in her life. She has continued to smile, stay strong and has been so willing and open to share her journey with others, to help raise awareness of Breast Cancer in young people"". www.birdsbodycasts.co.uk The approximate size of this cast is 15 inches x 15 inches. ""My work is really stylised, always with a black outline, and bold, bright colours. I didn?t choose the naked monsters for any particular reason other than it would lift the spirits, rather than being too heavy and morbid, as the whole project was an extremely delicate issue, after all, its not every day you see monsters with their willies out hugging monster boobs. This is a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Sally Turner. Sally says ""My name is Sally. I am a wife, Mum and grandma. Three years ago, aged 53, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. When I initially found the lump and had an ultrasound, I was told it was just a cyst. However the lump increased in size and a year later I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Unfortunately this meant I had missed out on a years worth of treatment. I then had a lumpectomy, chemotherapy, mastectomy, reconstruction and then 5 weeks of radiotherapy. There were a few problems during the mastectomy and the operation lasted 10 and a half hours. On top of that I had picked up an infection during the operation but didn`t know this for another 3 weeks when I became very ill and was readmitted to Broomfield Hospital. Another operation followed. This was probably the worst time for me. My poor husband was working full time shift work but travelled the round trip of 110 miles every day for nearly 2 weeks, bringing my children and friends to see me. It was a cold November day when I came home and I stood in our garden for about half an hour breathing in the cool fresh air. How grateful I was to be able to do that! It was a moment I will never forget and I realised just how lucky I was. I had a loving husband, dear family and very good friends. They had all kept me going and held my hand every step of the way. I am very grateful to the doctors and nurses who cared for me. I would urge anyone finds something abnormal in their breasts to go to their doctor as soon as possible and not ignore it."" Sally`s cast was painted by her daughter artist Rebecca Yarnton `This being the cast of my Mum, who has survived breast cancer, the task of decorating it has been a very special experience for me. I have been making art on canvases with string for some time, and decided to use that technique to decorate her cast. This is a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Kate Dowe. Kate says ""We have as sisters taken part in this event in memory of our beautiful mum. She battled hard to fight this disease for twelve years through heartache, pain and many tears. Our mum taught us to care and always be aware!! So we now present to you the casts of our breast?s for you to view. This ones for you our little lady. Love you always, your girls xxxxxx"". Kate`s cast was painted by artist Laura Turner of Lolli Pop Art. "" I didn`t know Kate, and therefore had no idea what she liked and what she didn`t, but I knew that I had to do something completely different from the other casts. Especially as three of them were her sisters! I decided to do something feminine, with butterflies made from decoupage paper, and painted the rest of the cast using acrylic and spray paint"". This is a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Sue Smith. Sue says ""We (Suffolk Breakthrough) were approached with this wonderful project way back at the begining of the year. What an amazing idea to help raise awareness. Of course I was going to be involved, having my breasts cast and put on display for all the world to see is the least I can do. I am extremely proud of how they look, all down to the wonderful artist who decorated them of course, thanks Joolz! If we save just one life from this project it has been worth the work it has taken to put it on. I have been truly inspired and moved by the stories of all of our models. Girls you are AMAZING!!!"". Sue`s cast was painted by Joolz Halpin-Wood. ""I chose to create a feminine design avoiding any pre-conceived plan or expectation - just go with the contours of the cast. This meant I did not dwell on the design but started `doodling` straight onto the cast. Using warm and cheery colours I hoped would project some positivity. It was important to me that the owner of the breasts would be pleased with the design and feel I had done her boobs justice. However, I did not know Sue or anything about her, other than she was a volunteer for Suffolk Breakthrough. This meant I had no idea of her likes or dislikes but Sue says she loves the decoration, so I hope Sue can be proud of her colourful breasts! This project has opened my eyes to the damage that breast cancer causes and I am proud to have been involved. The influences that came through in the design were yogic and eastern mysticism with the repetition of design from work as a textile designer. I studied Ceramic Design at Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design and after graduating worked for many years as a textile designer for a suffolk weaving company. I am now starting work as a potter in my new studio in Sible Hedingham, Essex"". Contact:joolzhalpinwood@btinternet.com The approximate size of this cast is 15 inches x 8 inches. This is a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Laura Hudson. Laura says ""I have volunteered for the Suffolk group of Breakthrough Breast Cancer for the last 6 years. Having lost my father to Cancer when I was only 13, I know the pain of not only growing up without a parent, but living without one day to day as well. I passionately believe that the only way to stop people dying of this disease is by investing in the research and finding out why and how it happens, only then can we work out how to stop it. I am honoured to represent Breakthrough Breast Cancer and to be part of this campaign alongside so many brave and amazing women"". Laura`s cast was painted by artist Kirsty Sharman. ""I would say that my piece represents how something that by some or the beholder can be deemed to be spoiled or ruined can also be seen as beautiful depending on how we view situations. My style took a graffiti messy edge but with a bright and beautiful outcome that stands out for all the right reasons. I wanted this message to come with hope and encouragement that beauty and conformity is only a state of mind of the individual that sees or lives something. This is an encouraging prospect when something is seemed to be ruined as its not the same as what the majority are used to seeing. I wish the project all the best and will be following closely"". This is a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace. Aisleyne says ""I am supporting the `Simply The Breast` project to encourage women to check themselves. My mum died at 54 years old for something that could have been stopped if she had known sooner. It`s important even young girls check themselves, I had a friend who was only 22 when she found out she has breast cancer. Boobs don`t define you as a woman, it`s not the sole factor of who you are, and I hope by having my breast cast displayed and auctioned, it helps raise awareness and funds for a very worthy cause"". Aisleyne`s cast was decorated by artist Caroline Blake. "" I actually painted the cast ""live"" in a shop window in the Apex, Bury St Edmunds, to promote the cause. I wanted it to be bountiful, pink and vibrant, and full of life representing the strength and courage of people saying I am alive and out there- fighting cancer. I really enjoyed painting this beautiful cast as it made a great canvas!"". The approximate size of this cast is 15 inches x 8 inches. This is a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Mary Hills. Mary says ""When I discovered the lump on my 52nd birthday I have never felt such fear, I passed the next 18 months of multiple operations and chemotherapy in a state that I can only describe as numb, egged on by my family, friends and colleagues I came to realise how many people loved me and a stubbornness set in that every day I would prove worthy of such affection, that I would not take anyone or anything for granted. I am still here, I love my life, I am saying yes and trying new things all time which opens up new worlds and leads me to meet talented people, to do things that my former self could never have dreamed. This is a live breast cast made of plaster of paris of Tracey Stephenson. Tracey says "" I?m 50 this year, a widow with 3 daughters and a year ago, in September 2014, following my first mammogram, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I saw a piece in the Bury Free Press about the project. I was about to undergo a mastectomy and immediate reconstruction. I wanted to take part because after I was diagnosed, I met with a lot of misconceptions and naivety regarding breast cancer and I wanted to try to raise awareness to help others overcome these issues. Plus I have 3 daughters and I wanted to show them I could beat this and that it wouldn?t get me down, to show them that life throws you curve balls but the best way to deal with them is head on. I am pleased to have been able to use my experience in a positive way. I?m still undergoing further breast reconstruction and it will probably be another year before the surgical team have finished with me but all the healthcare professionals have been excellent and have made the whole process easier to deal with. If doing all of this has made one person more aware, prompted one person to get checked out and deal with any thing they?ve found early enough to get it treated successfully, made one more person be more supportive to a family member or friend, then it has all been worthwhile"". Tracey`s Cast was painted by artist Jane Bryant. ""In my work I am interested in repetition, form, and the process of drawing. For Tracey`s cast I followed a process of repetition with the addition of an image embedded within the circles. This is based upon an orchid flower which has the most beautiful natural structure. I wanted to achieve a sense of peace and tranquility"". The approximate size of this cast is 15 inches x 8 inches. This is a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Deborah Blumfield. Deborah says, ""Having breast cancer is a life changing journey and I wanted to share a very positive outcome. Following a left mastectomy in April 2006 age 46, I had reconstructive surgery in July 2008. Most people would never know what has happened so to share the fact that research, treatment and a positive attitude can conquer this disease means it had to be done"". Deborah`s cast was decorated by artist Michele Webber. ""As soon as I saw the cast I wondered if I could mosaic it, and I started drawing on it with little idea of what I was drawing. First I had a sort of neckline shape and wondered perhaps if I was going to put the top of a dress on the cast, but eventually it started to take a bra type shape. However it didn`t look like lingerie, more like a sports bra or bikini. That is when I remembered how much I had missed swimming during my own cancer treatment. It is no surprise I `dressed` my cast - when I was a kid my stepfather used to get the Sun newspaper, and I was always upset for the ladies who had no top on, and used to draw underwear on them in black biro. I have always been more interested in clothes and fashion than life drawing. People look so much less impressive than animals when they are uncovered, it is no wonder we invented such a wide range of colourful clothing types Whilst working on the cast I decided I had better finish some of my more usual panel extreme close up! My biggest concern with this project was the fact that the edges of the cast were thin and definitely flexible. This could go either way I thought... But amazingly the tiles seemed to stabilise it, and by the end it felt more like a piece of sculpture. I was pleased to find it stood up alone too. Realising that the cast would be seen from both sides I decided to paint the inside. I had in mind the red soles of Louboutin shoes... and as I walked through the kitchen (currently being replaced) I noticed the test area of cornflower blue I had painted on the wall. A couple of coats and some clear varnish and the cast was finished mosaics"". www.michelewebber.com The approximate size of this cast is 15 inches x 10 inches. This ia a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Tania Watson. Tania says ""I am not battling or fighting, just dealing with it and moving on. Trying to turn what could have been very negative into a positive. I am no stronger or braver than you are, until you have to you will never know how strong or brave you can be. Two choices, deal with it and move on, or let it deal with you. This has been and is still my mantra, from finding my lump, I don`t feel I have an illness it`s a blip in my health"". This is a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Katie Milbank. Katie says, ""My grandmother died of breast cancer when I was very young, I don?t really remember her much, only from photographs. When I was growing up, my mum had a lump removed from her breast and I remember going to visit her in hospital. It was scary, but it turned out to be nothing.I had my own health scare in 2012, a little bit of surgery and I was fine. Again, it was nothing. In some ways it felt a bit odd getting involved in the project, seeing all these amazing casts from survivors, and only having had minor scrapes myself. But that?s how life is isn?t it? Without even being aware of it, you?re walking this thin line all the time, and one day it can just hit you in the face. It?s all about awareness. Since I got involved with the project, my great Aunt has been diagnosed with breast cancer, and is not doing so well. It?s so important to continue to raise awareness about breast cancer. It?s been amazing being involved, seeing the project grow, the casts being decorated, hearing the stories behind each one. I?m in awe of all the other women. I?m so proud to be part of this"". This ia a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Melanie McGuinness. Melanie says, ""It took a while to warm to the idea of allowing the general public to view my breasts, after all exposure of breasts usual follows the protocol of page 3 models and something to be proud of. Being proud of my breasts couldn`t be further from my thoughts, although 5 years on from my mastectomy the results of my surgery are still very raw and only remind me of the horror that I endured fighting this horrible disease. So the decision was made and the appointment for the casting arrived. Being made to feel very special by Keri was the first step and in a very calm and private environment I allowed the first stranger to view my breasts. There was no shock expression or gasp of disbelief just caring admiration. So then the wait......apprehension turned to excitement as my phoned bleeped to let me know the images had been sent. I was so pleased with the results, the artist has done me proud and I think they look really cute (never would that word be used in the past). I would like to say a massive thank you to all involved for allowing/convincing me to take this project on and supported me throughout. I pray each day that exposure, fund raising and support ends this evil disease from affecting so many people. Melanie`s cast was painted by artist Jane Bryant. ""It was a privilege to have the opportunity to take part in this project. In my work I am interested in repetition, form, and the process of drawing. The idea for Melanie`s cast was to allow the form to guide the mark-making, and I wanted to achieve a sense of peace and tranquility.
