This is a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Sally Turner.

Sally says ""My name is Sally. I am a wife, Mum and grandma.

Three years ago, aged 53, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. When I initially found the lump and had an ultrasound, I was told it was just a cyst. However the lump increased in size and a year later I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Unfortunately this meant I had missed out on a years worth of treatment.

I then had a lumpectomy, chemotherapy, mastectomy, reconstruction and then 5 weeks of radiotherapy. There were a few problems during the mastectomy and the operation lasted 10 and a half hours. On top of that I had picked up an infection during the operation but didn`t know this for another 3 weeks when I became very ill and was readmitted to Broomfield Hospital. Another operation followed.

This was probably the worst time for me. My poor husband was working full time shift work but travelled the round trip of 110 miles every day for nearly 2 weeks, bringing my children and friends to see me.

It was a cold November day when I came home and I stood in our garden for about half an hour breathing in the cool fresh air.

How grateful I was to be able to do that! It was a moment I will never forget and I realised just how lucky I was. I had a loving husband, dear family and very good friends. They had all kept me going and held my hand every step of the way.

I am very grateful to the doctors and nurses who cared for me. I would urge anyone finds something abnormal in their breasts to go to their doctor as soon as possible and not ignore it.""

Sally`s cast was painted by her daughter artist Rebecca Yarnton

`This being the cast of my Mum, who has survived breast cancer, the task of decorating it has been a very special experience for me. I have been making art on canvases with string for some time, and decided to use that technique to decorate her cast. I wanted to give the effect of simplicity, yet retain an overall feeling of elegance, and I felt that painting the cast white helps to create that`.

The approximate size of this cast is 15 inches x 8 inches.

To post this item to you (1st class Special Delivery) a charge of £20 will need to added to this item. This item is also available to collect from Bury St Edmunds. Please state `post` or `collection` at time of payment.
