A Japanese Imari vase by Kayama, Meiji era, of globular form with short trumpet rim, decorated with kirin in flight amid clouds against an iron red wave ground, six-character mark to the underside 大日本香山製 (Dai Nihon Kayama Sei), 18cm high.Very small rim chip with associated hairline to the rim and a further hairline to the rim.
A Japanese satsuma koro and cover, Meiji era, of cuboid form with canted corners, the pierced domed cover with bud finial, the sides painted with populated landscapes and a scene of birds amid flowering wisteria (hairlines), 17cm high.Two sides have fine hairlines. A Japanese card case by Komai, Meiji era, circa 1900, of rectangular form and slightly curved profile, decorated in silver and gilt nunomezogan to the front with a scene of pavilions and boats before Mount Fuji and verso with birds in flight amid flowers and foliage, the inside with etched gilt bracket, signed Komai with a seal mark, 9.5cm long, with a silk sleeve appearing contemporaneous.Very good overall with only negligible signs of age.

He lived in Yokahama from 1907 to 1914, marrying the vendor's grandmother on 17th June 1911 (the vendor has a newspaper cutting covering the wedding). In 1914 they moved to Canton. It was during this time in the Far East that he bought this lot and assembled a collection of Oriental art.
