Johnston, three pages, 8vo, Queen Anne's Mansions, St. James's Park, London, 8th July 1896, to Sir Edwin [Arnold]. Johnston states that he would have lunched with his correspondent but on the day and hour suggested has to attend a Railway Committee, adding that he hopes the pleasure will only be postponed until he returns in the autumn, and explaining that he is going out of town for a much needed rest although may look in on Arnold at Fleet Street before leaving. Johnston further remarks 'when I am back here & my pictures are up you must bring your Japanese visitor to look at my drawings & you must give me another chance at breakfast with you'. One small spindle hole only very slightly affects a few words of text, otherwise VG Sir Edwin Arnold (1832-1904) English Poet & Journalist, remembered for his work The Light of Asia (1879).
