An unusual carved walnut open elbow chair, probably French. 19th century. The arch top panelled back carved with pierced sea scroll decoration, the scroll front arms with carved acanthus style leaf decoration raised on a barley twist column. The overstuffed seat raised on barley twist front supports with brass cup castors.
A set of eight Regency mahogany dining chairs, comprising two carver arm and six single chairs, each having a well figured brass strung bowed top rail set between moulded scrolling stiles and with centre foliate tablet to the back support with foliate and scroll carved lyre shaped horizontal supports, the armchairs having downswept scroll arms with turned terminals, each chair with drop-in seat upholstered in burgundy velvet material having a moulded front rail and standing on moulded sabre legs .
A late 19th century continental walnut, marquetry and parquetry inlaid writing slope, probably Madeira, the scallop edge back and sides to a pen restb and lidded compartments, the hinged cover inlaid two figures carrying another in a sedan type chair, revealing baize lined hinged surfaces and three drawers, 18.75in (47.6cm) wide.
A Victorian mahogany and brass bound wheel, the turned brass hubcap inscribed 'John Alderman, Manufacturer, 16 Soho Square, London,' 20. 25in (51.4cm) diameter. see Nicholas Brawer, British Campaign Furniture, p.159 for details of John Alderman's business listed as 'invalid chair, couch and carriage manufacturer.'
