There do not appear to have been any breaks or repairs to the top rails, stiles or legs. The arms to one chair are in good order with no issues. The second chair has possibly had a repair to the front top edge of the arm although this might actually have been part of the original manufacturing process. There is no movement in any event. The upholstery is in very good order with no issues.
A near pair of Queen Anne style wing easy chairs, upholstered in brown velvet type material and raised on front cabriole legs terminating in claw and ball feet. The chair with the flat tops to the arms has a mark on the outer edge of the top of the arm. Both cushions are in good condition. There are no protruding springs or webbing. There do not appear to be any losses. The front right-hand leg of the chair with the roll arms looks to have had a fracture across the front third of the claw and ball section. There is a faint visible line. There is however no movement and the repair is clearly good. There are no other issues with any of the other legs other than surface scuffs, marks and scratches around the extremities caused by vacuum cleaners etc. The rear legs have lost some polish. During his youth, Hope spent several years travelling the Mediterranean collecting artefacts that he would later display at his famous house built by Robert Adam in the 1770s on Duchess Street in London and later in his country home in Deepdene, Surrey.Hope insisted that furniture designs should be based on archaeologically and historically correct foundations and that examples from the classical and ancient worlds of Greece and Egypt should act as their template.
