Heuer, Daytona, ref. 110.203F, a stainless steel chronograph bracelet watch, no. 332430 circa 1977, automatic movement, 17 jewels unadjusted, cal.12, grey fume dial with grey sub dials, white baton hour markers, white pointed hour and minute hands with luminous inserts, white chronograph hands, date aperture to 6 o’clock, inner tachymeter bezel, screw down case back engraved ‘Prix Ministre de la Defense Nationale’, case, dial, crown, movement and bracelet signed, fitted to a stainless steel bracelet with folding clasp, diameter 39mm The back of this case bears the number 110.213G which collectors will recognise as the reference of the Verona with all steel case. As discussed on the Heuer forum ‘Chronocentric’, a number of these Daytona’s have come to light, even from original purchasers, which have this reference number anomaly. Whether this is a mistake in the factory or the using up of over-stock parts, we will never know. From the case back inscription, this watch was presented by the Ministry of National Defence in Canada.

Unlike most Heuers, the movement is unsigned, which is correct for this model. With its utilitarian appearance it is easy to imagine this being a military watch, an while there are no issue markings to suggest that this is the case, the abrasion marks at either end of the case and on the crown are sometimes used when watches are ‘decommissioned’ from service.
