Lt Col. Valentine Blacker CB. (British, 1778-1826) Satara from the NNE inscribed and dated '11th February 1818' pen & ink 23 x 14cm (9 1/16 x 5 1/2in). unframed Footnotes: Lt. Col. Blacker was present at the capture of Satara by Gen. Lionel Smith during the Third Anglo-Maratha War (1817–1819). The Ajinkyatara Fort that overlooks the town surrendered on 10th February 1818. Blacker was Surveyor-General for India 1823-26 and the author of 'Maps and Plans Illustrating the Operations of the British Army in India, during the Mahratta War of 1817, 1818, & 1819', published in 1821.
