Released in 1977 in conjunction with George Lucas' Star Wars: A New Hope, this projector is sealed in its original box with 16 strips for a total of 112 color slides. It comes from the collection of the film's advertising and publicity supervisor Charles "Charley" Lippincott. The box exhibits some wear along the edges. Also included are 112 color slides and 16 strips. The plastic wrap exhibits tearing and the box is dented on the upper right corner. UNKNOWN PRODUCTION - Howard Kazanjian Collection: Newton and Co. Magic LanternA Newton and Co. Magic Lantern projector. Considered a precursor to the slide projector, the lantern was used as such by projecting an image painted onto a glass slide by using a particular lens to focus candle light or electric light when it came later. The lantern reached peak popularity in the 18th century for its use to both entertain and educate.This piece is comprised of mahogany and brass plates and tubes used in the projection lens. The lantern includes a black metal chimney and a small door on either side for access to the illuminant. The projector exhibits some scuffs to the wood and discoloration to the metal elements.
