`.Containing The Plans, Elevations and Sections of The Regular Buildings Both Publick and Private in Great Britain with a Variety of New Designs. In Large Folio Plates Engraved by The Best Hands and Drawn Either From The Buildings Themselves or The Original Designs of The Architects. [1717 ] - 1731., 1731. Two Volumes only. Vols. 2 & 3. Full contemporary mottled calf raised bands. Folio. Lacks one plate final plate 101 ,volume three. Vitruvius Britannicus established Palladian Architecture as the approved style for Britain in the 18th Century. Colen Campbell issued the first three volumes.The plates are of the great country house estates, palaces ,government offices and churches.The architects were Inigo Jones,Wren ,Vanbrugh, et al with Colen Campbell`s own new English Paladian designs.The work appeared the same year as Leoni`s Palladio.Campbell was a visionary and this work remains the indespensable collection of designs of 17th and 18th Century English Domestic Architecture.The later two volumes were of the later architects who took Palladianism from the Grand to the modest and were published by John Woolfe and James Gandon in 1767 and 1771.
