in search of big game. While his descriptions of the countryside
are quite detailed, it is his sporting adventures that merit the
most attention. There are encounters with lion, kudu, giraffe,
eland, rhinoceros, and numerous hunts after elephant.
There's even a description of the guano trade along the
coast of southwest Africa. An excellent work of adventure
and big game hunting" [Czech, An Annotated Bibliography of
