A late Victorian Wileman & Co., Foley china part-tea set, comprising: twelve trios, a large open sugar bowl and a cream jug, each decorated with hand painted floral sprays, pattern no. 6948, together with a Foley china Crestedware jug and a J Kent Ltd., commemorative Royal mug dating to 1937. Condition Report: A hairline crack to one cup and small areas of damage to other items. Items appear in good general unused condition, apart from the specifics mentioned. No apparent restoration. Mark is present on all items, although not all have pattern number marks. Side plates: 18cm & saucers 14cm.
A Wileman & Co Foley Intarsio Pottery White Rabbits Vase and Cover, circa 1900, designed by Frederick A Rhead, of baluster form, the domed cover with pointed finial, the vase decorated with a central band of white rabbits in a landscape within stylised floral bands, printed factory mark and 3135, Rd No. 337996, 40cm (damage to cover) The cover has a re-glued finial and chips to the edges. The vase has a restored chip to the foot rim, nick to the rim, tiny nick on the body, surface scratches and firing blemishes.

EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURY WILEMAN AND CO., `THE FOLEY` INTARSIO POTTERY PEDESTAL BOWL, shallow form with flared rim and three scroll supports enclosing the central waisted column, raised on a circular foot, black printed and washed with a band of fish and stylised borders, on a green ground, 72 (17.8cm) high, 8"" (20.3cm) diameter, printed mark and No. 3388
Peter Wileman AROI (b.1946) "London Eye and Westminster" Signed, oil on board, together with a hand embellished giclee print after the artist titled "Twilight Vision", 32cm by 39.5cm and 48.5cm by 100.5cm respectively (2) Sold together with a signed copy of Wileman (Peter) and Allsop (Malcolm), "Painting Light in Oils", Batsford, 2011 CONDITION REPORT: The London Eye has a thin layer of surface dirt and an area of paint loss to the centre of the bottom edge (approximately 1cm in length) There are areas where the paint is thin and the board is showing through. Otherwise in general good condition. The print has a thin layer of surface dirt and there are a few areas where the pigment has been lost, to the bottom left hand corner, there is a scratch approximately 4cm in length and there are a few small scratches to the left of the centre where the pigment has been lost.
*Biography. The Rheads were an old North Staffordshire family who had been connected with pottery production since the 18th century. Frederick Alfred Rhead [1856-1933] was to follow the family tradition of potting but combined it with that of artist and designer. At the age of thirteen he joined Mintons as an apprentice painter and a year later was assigned as an apprentice to Louis Solon, the leading exponent of the difficult and skillful technique of pate-sur-pate. Frederick worked for Solon until 1877 and the following year joined the Wedgwood factory. He also worked as a freelance for firms such as Pinder, Bourne and as art director for James Gildea, Brownfield`s and Wileman & Co. In 1912 he joined Wood & Sons and then in 1929 Cauldon Potteries which at that time was a conglomerate including Royal Crown Derby, Royal Worcester and Ridgways. Five of Frederick`s six children were involved in the pottery business, Frederick Hurten Rhead [1880-1942] and Charlotte [Lottie] Rhead [1885-1947] are probably the best known. Frederick Hurten worked for most of his life in the United States for firms including Tiltonville, Wheeling, The Weller Pottery, Roseville, his own firm Rhead Pottery and the Homer Laughlin China Company. Charlotte Rhead [1885-1947] started her career at Wardle & Co. in Hanley and it was here that she developed her skills as a tubeliner. She subsequently worked for Keeling & Co., T&R Boote and with her father at Wood and Sons. She is probably best known for her work at Burgess & Leigh [Burleigh Pottery] and A.G.Richardson [Crown Ducal]. PROVENANCE: The present collection is being sold on behalf of the Executors of the estate of the late Richard Harry Rhead Cronin. Frederick Alfred Rhead and his wife Adolphine had six children: Frederick, Henry, Marie, Charlotte, Catherine and Adolphine. Richard Harry Rhead Cronin was the son of Marie and therefore Charlotte Rhead`s nephew. A fine Frederick Alfred Rhead, probably for Minton, pate-sur-pate porcelain vase: of cylindrical form decorated with an angel holding aloft a large bowl with text below `And when the angel with his darker draught draws up to thee-take that and do not shrink` taken from verse 48 of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, signed F.A. Rhead, 30.5 cm. * Provenance: From the Estate of Richard Harry Rhead Cronin, son of Marie Elizabeth Adolphine Rhead (sister to Charlotte Rhead)
A Sèvres porcelain butter dish and cover, circa 1757, the cylindrical body, integral stand and cover all painted with flower sprays within blue and gilt borders, blue enamelled interlaced `L`s and date code to base, diameter approx 20cm (repaired), together with an English porcelain blue and white shaped oval dish, late 18th Century, painted with leaves and berries, pseudo Chinese characters to base, length approx 25cm (rim chips), and a Wileman & Co iridescent stoneware vase, impressed factory mark (cracked).
