Fine 18th century French violoncello attributed to and labelled Lagetto, Maitre Luthier, A la Ville de Cremone, á Paris, 1776, also stamped below the button on the back, the two piece back of very faint broad curl with plainish wood to the sides and geometric dot carved decoration to the head, the table of a medium width grain and the varnish of a light reddish-brown colour on a golden ground, 29 1/8", 74cm, hard case *This violoncello is sold with a certificate of authenticity from Caressa et Francais dated 30th March 1920; also the instrument is accompanied by a bill of sale from John & Arthur Beare dated 18th September 1957 for £55, describing the instrument as an old violoncello of the Paris School by Lagetto, dated 1767. *This violoncello has had several table repair cracks, there are other more minor repairs to the back and ribs.
