A collection of scientific instruments, including: an early 19th century Culpepper type lacquered brass microscope by W & J Gilbert, London, in a mahogany case and with a base drawer fitted with lenses and slides, a rare 18th century gilt metal and ivory girdle spinning wheel, a Victorian brass microscope by Newton & Co., a Wye type telescope / theodolite measuring instrument with spirit level on an open frame base, a cased brass circular protractor by Davis & Son, Derby, an early 19th century brass travelling theodolite inscribed 'Robinson 38 Devonshire Street, Portland Place, LONDON', a Newton & Co. microscope case and a metronome, 60.4cm high (max). Dated 1916. A British military brass gunsight telescope, mounted on an earlier date (Victorian?) heavy-duty theodolite or similar instrument tripod head; the mount capable of elevation and traverse and the sight provided with power (zoom) and focus rings and spring-loaded eyepiece; marked 'W. Watson & Sons Ltd. London 1916' and 'V.P. 3-9'. 8.8 kg, 59cm (23 1/4"). Property of an Essex collector; acquired 1970s. Fine condition. [No Reserve]
Brass Surveyor's Theodolite By WS Jones London. The brass and gilt brass level has a rotating circular base with thumbscrew adjustment. Engraved W & S Jones London. Supported on its axis by two A frames. The radius is engraved with a scale and the the base has a bubble level attached. W & S Jones were amongst the most successful 19th Century scientific instrument makers in London. Height around 12"
