Surveying; Yorkshire. Illustrated manuscript guide to surveying by Thomas Wilson, 1792-3. Folio (330 x 205 mm), contemporary mottled half calf, spine compartments ruled in gilt, paper sides printed with a geometric and floral pattern in red, retaining a contemporary wrapper of heavy wove brown paper with calligraphic manuscript title 'Surveying by Thos. Wilson 1792', edges dyed blue. [84] ff. (laid paper, Britannia watermark), 2 folding estate plans in pen-and-ink and watercolour with decorative cartouches ('A Plan of Part of the Estate of John Jackson Esqr lying in the Parish of Barton' and 'A Plan of Westerdale-Town with some of the Fields Adjoyning'), calligraphic headings, some 80 diagrams and plans in the text, including about 30 simple trigonometric diagrams in pen and ink only, the rest comprising more detailed diagrams and estate plans incorporating stylised features in watercolour including cottages, hedgerows and river courses, calligraphic ownership inscription 'Thos. Wilson's Book 1792' to front free endpaper, a few old stains, in very good condition, unrestored (qty: 1) A remarkable unpublished document produced at the height of the agricultural revolution. Sections include 'Description and Use of Gunter's Chain', 'Practical Surveying by the Theodolite', and 'Irregular Figures to Exercise the Young Surveyor in Casting up'. An E R Watts & Son lacquered brass theodolite, in original box, with a Negretti & Zambra theodolite, also in fitted case (2).Additional InformationThe Watts theodolite with minor age wear and some tarnishing to the metalwork, but essentially ok. The box is heavily rubbed and scratched throughout and is lacking the leather handle. The other theodolite has a dull patina throughout and much wear and many scratches to the casing. Water marks and wear to the fitted case.

A late 19th century Thompson of Manchester lacquered brass theodolite, in fitted mahogany case, with a brass mounted tripod, length of theodolite 31.5cm (2).Additional InformationThe glass cells on the top of the theodolite are cracked and empty of liquid. General age wear patina throughout, small dent to side of tube on the un-named side. Tripod with all over age wear patina of scratches and wear consistent with age.

Now fully restored rewired and mounted on highly polished aluminium vintage theodolite stands from Swiss manufacturer Kern, 70cm high by 70cm diameterThis beautifully refined light was made by British manufacturer G.E.C and salvaged from the old de-commissioned Rolls Royce factory in Derby in the UK. Established in London in 1886, the General Electrical Company were to become the largest electrical manufacturing organisation in the British Empire and lived up to their description of Manufacturers of everything electrical, throughout their 100 year history. During the mass industrialization of the 1950s, GEC were often the supplier of choice for lighting the factories, workshops and mills of Britain with their huge range of light fixtures for every application.Rolls Royce built its Nightingale Road site to move production of the Silver Ghost car to Derby from Manchester in 1908. It later became synonymous with the Merlin engine, which powered the Lancaster Bomber, the Spitfire and the Mustang. These lights would have been in use during that war to illuminate the factory floor for the workforce.
