HERRMANN BERNARD: (1911-1975) American Film Composer, Academy Award winner. Herrmann is remembered for his collaborations with director Alfred Hitchcock on many films including Psycho, North by Northwest and Vertigo. Herrmann's other film scores include Citizen Kane and Taxi Driver. Book signed, being a hardback edition of A List of Books About Music in the English Language, compiled by Percy A. Scholes as an appendix to The Oxford Companion to Music, First Edition published by the Oxford University Press, 1940. With Herrmann's ownership signature ('Bernard Herrmann') in bold black fountain pen ink to the head of the front free endpaper. Also bearing numerous ink and pencil annotations and marks throughout indicating which books the composer owned or wished to acquire as well as a few brief details of additional titles. Bound in the original publisher's blue cloth and with a gilt title to the spine. No dust jacket. Rare. Some very light, extremely minimal age wear, VG

C.1980 Mercedes Benz W123, 240D, 2400cc. Registration number unregistered. Chassis number WDB12312310349883. Engine number unknown.Like its predecessors, W123 gained the reputation of being over-engineered, well-built, durable, and reliable. Many taxi companies chose W123 for this reason, and they were common sight in Germany. Reaching 1,000,000 km with minor mechanical issues was common.Nothing is known of the background to this left hand drive example, found in a garage during a Hull house clearance there is no paperwork with the car. It bears German number plates that were last registered in 1994.The body is in good condition considering its age and has responded well to a polish, there is no diesel pre start and a petrol ignition has been fitted with a wire to cut the engine which runs well although the bottom radiator house has now failed. The odometer shows only 65,000km but this cannot be confirmed.Sold without any paperwork it will make a good project.

Toklas to William Cook and his wife Jeanne to endpaper, some cracking to upper hinge but holding firm, original cloth, scratch mark to upper cover, dust-jacket, light browning to spine, spine ends and corners a little chipped, a few very short closed tears to head and foot with accompanying creasing, some very light surface soiling, [Wilson A52a], 8vo, New Haven, CT, Yale University Press, 1952.⁂ An excellent association copy inscribed to a close long-time friend of Stein and Toklas. William Cook (1881-1959), an American expatriate artist and taxi driver, first came to know Stein and Toklas during a holiday in Majorca. On returning to Paris, Cook, while working as a taxi driver, would ferry tourists and visitors to Stein's salons and even taught Stein to drive, as skill she put to use during the war, helping to transport supplies for the French war effort.
