Artist easel from the studio of Francis Bacon PROVENANCE: Gifted by Valerie Beston to the Vendor while he was working for T.Rogers and Company Limited, a fine art packing and storage company, who worked for the Marlborough Gallery. Similar items including Francis Bacon`s paint brushes have been auctioned at a prominent London auction house in September 2013. Quote from the vendor; "Miss Valerie Beston used to store her personal collection of art, [ which was sold at Christies in 2006] and various other personal things , paper work and related items. She would pop into Rogers to either drop off or collect certain items on numerous occasions and very often i would assist her with what ever help , wrap up items for storage or wrap items up for her to take away. On one occasion she arrived in a taxi laden with boxes of paper work and such items, amongst these items was a paint spattered easel which i was asked to dispose of, I asked to whom it belonged and she replied that it belonged to Francis Bacon, with that I immediately asked if I could have it and she replied of course, she was a lovely lady and very generous to me." Sold with a catalogue for an auction of the Collection Of The Late Miss Valerie Beston in February 2006.
