Rothaug, Alexander -- Studienbuch58 Blatt. Feder in Schwarz und Bleistift, teils aquarelliert, teils mit farbigen Kreiden, auf Velin. Orig-Broschur. Um 1922-1929.24 x 19 cm. Mehrfach mit Bleistift bzw. Feder in Schwarz signiert "Alexander Rothaug", datiert, mehrfach betitelt und bezeichnet.Das Studienbuch Rothaugs zeigt nicht nur das akribische, ja fast besessene Arbeiten des Künstlers an seinen Figuren und Entwürfen, sondern auch sein profundes anatomisches Wissen und den feinen Sinn für Kompositionen, der sich selbst in der spannungsreichen Gestaltung der Studienblattseiten widerspiegelt. So gruppiert er die unterschiedlichsten Motive zusammen, Skelettstudien neben Kampfszenen, Aktzeichnungen neben einen Mönch, den Engel des Todes und Odysseus neben Typologien von Zaghaften, Stürmern und Feigen, Architekturentwürfe neben Studien zu Guido Reni. Ein lose beiliegender und ein montierter Ausschnitt einer Zeichnung zeigen exemplarisch Rothaugs Arbeitsweise, gelegentlich besonders gelungene Figurenstudien collagenhaft in Zeichnungen einzufügen. Es finden sich u. a. folgende Themen: Die Ausgeschlossenen, Odysseus sehnt sich nach der Heimat, Des Frühlings Erwachen, Penelope und die Freier, Danayden-Brunnen, Venus, Boreas, Mönch am Ufer, Der gekreuzigte Christus, Der Engel des Todes, Tantalus, Sisyphos, Apollo schießt seine todbringenden Pestpfeile auf die Stadt, Dirke, Die Nymphe belauscht den Einsiedler, Jason, Nymphenraub, Schaumgeborene / Aphrodite Anadyomene, Odaliske, Charon entführt die Kinder, Und vor dem Fenster steht schweigend die Nacht, Strandpiraten, Heilige Nacht, Grotte am Meer, Turm von San Telmo, Jagender Kentaur, Danae, Pandora und viele mehr, sowie ein Selbstbildnis, datiert 1923. Auf der Umschlaginnenseite notiert Rothaug: "Gott siehet auf das Treiben der Menschen / Milionen sterben durch die Schuld einzelner / Aber warum lässt du dieses geschehen? / Alle hoffen zu leben auf dieser schönen Erde / und sie morden sich. Jeder will Alles. A good Mappin & Webb Sheffield tantalus, marked to underside of carrying handle "silver on copper plate made in England" complete with 3 glass decanters and a key. 2 stoppers with some minor scratches and chips to base; 2 decanters chip to fluted everted neck; some overall scratches; and 3 decanter labels, B H W. The H label is hallmarked silver. marks slightly rubbed.
