A 19th century wooden cane swordstick; the horn handle carved as a hoof above a circular gold plated ferule with flower head and lozenge style decoration, the wood of a pleasant burnt orange grain hue, the swordstick blade 68cm, the cane length 90cm (including handle), this swordstick only to be sold to persons aged 18 and over The wooden cane appears to be in good honest original condition. The ferule overall has no problems although some rubbing to the gilding commensurate with age. The shaft by the collar measures approx. 18mm diameter. The cane generally overall is a nice piece and has come privately. The blade is of tapering lozenge shape and appears to be engraved with some foliate style decoration towards the top of the blade approx. 13/14cm away from the ferule. The underside of the carved horn horses hoof is “shod” with a conforming dark copper plaque. The handle exhibits minor scratches and dings commensurate with age but in our opinion these do not take away from the quality or aesthetic look of the piece. There are no splits or cracks on the cane itself. The carved hoof handle has a few minor scuffs and scratches commensurate with age but no cracks or splits are to be found on the handle. There is a very small indentation approx. match head sized, very shallow piece of horn away close to the underside where the hoof exhibits a conforming shaped dark copper plate but otherwise no problems noted. No cracks or splits to the handle and in good original order.
