Very Rare Museum Book from North Korea. “Korean Central History Museum”, Pyongyang, DPRK, 2004. The ceramics section is the largest with 85 items shown from Neolithic pottery up to 19th century porcelain, 33 of which are Koryo Dynasty celadons. Also included are ancient bronzes, wood & stone sculptures (many of which are Buddhist) and a small section on paintings and calligraphy. Hardback covered in simulated leather. English & Korean text. 200 printed pages. 30cm x 21.5cm. As new.

Neolithic, a complete knapped and partially polished flint or chert axehead of probable Neolithic date, c. 4000-2500 BC. The axe is of broadly sub-rectangular form, with a tapered butt and straight sides which extend into a slightly convex cutting edge. Regular bifacial removals extend down the edges of the axe on both faces, though these become less and less pronounced towards its 'business end'-where the axe has been polished to a fine degree of sharpness. Manufactured on a piece of fine-grained flint or chert, greyish in colour with some pinkish/purple banding. Condition: very fresh, slight chip to butt end. Length: c. 177mm. Provenance: from an English collection, possibly of European extraction.
Prehistoric, Neolithic or Bronze Age, two flint tools and a slightly degraded bead. The two flint tools consisting a scraper with natural worm-cast hole through its centre, the other being a very nicely made convergent fabricator or borer on a tertiary flake. The bead with a patinated surface but bright orange surfaces underneath, surface covered with surface facets. Glass and of later date than the flint tools. Length of largest flint tool: 60mm. Provenance: English collection, antiquarian finds reportedly from the Barrow-on-Trent area.
A CHINESE NEOLITHIC STYLE JADE SPLIT RING of circular form, one end terminating in a mythical beast head, the stone of whitish-celadon tone, 9cm diameter; together with a Chinese celadon jade inkstone, carved in the form of a flattened cicada with hollowed sections, the stone of pale celadon tone with russet inclusions, 7.5cm long; and a pair of celadon jade miniautre saucers, each with gently curved sides rising from a short straight foot, the stone of pale celadon tone, 3.2cm diameter (4) Provenance: Swiss Private Collection of Chinese Jades: sold for the benefit of Mission Bambini.
